About the role
About The First-Year Intern Position We are excited to welcome motivated and curious first-year students to join our team as interns for QSURJ. In this role, you will gain hands-on experience in academic publishing by supporting the work of the editorial team, shadowing executive members, and assisting with essential journal operations.
This is a learning-focused position designed to provide interns with exposure to the peer review and publication process, leadership development opportunities, and insight into how an academic journal is managed. Training and mentorship will be provided, and no prior experience is required—just enthusiasm, reliability, and a willingness to learn!
First-Year Intern Responsibilities
- Shadow and support QSURJ executive members to learn about their roles and responsibilities
- Assist with administrative and operational tasks across editorial, communications, and outreach teams
- Take accurate and organized minutes during meetings and distribute them to the team
- Help coordinate journal events, workshops, or information sessions as needed
- Contribute to internal communications and support correspondence with authors, reviewers, and student groups
- Assist with social media, promotional campaigns, or recruitment efforts under supervision, especially to first-year student communities
- Uphold QSURJ’s values of academic integrity, collaboration, and professionalism in all tasks
- Actively engage in discussions, ask questions, and seek opportunities for learning and growth!
