About the role
As a Naval Architect, you will support the design, development, integration, and testing of the Canadian Coast Guard’s future fleet of six Program Icebreakers. The role will lead structural design efforts and support ship construction activities. More specifically you will:
- Support the Engineering Department in producing and reviewing engineering drawings and specifications.
- Assist in the design, development, and testing of engineering solutions.
- Ensure compliance with the Corporate Management System (CMS), safety regulations, and best practices.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to meet project objectives on time, within budget, and to quality standards.
- Review and support subcontractor design work.
- Provide support to the Production Engineering Department.
- Guide the fabrication and assembly of ship structures.
- Maintain and monitor weight records.
- Supervise technicians, technologists, and other engineers, as needed, to review and approve drawings, calculations, and cost estimates.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and standards, including the rules and regulations of classification societies, IMO, and Transport Canada.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Naval Architecture.
- Minimum of five (5) years’ relevant experience.
- Experience working with the rules and regulations of classification societies and flag states.
- Knowledge of engineering design principles and methods.
- Experience working in a shipyard is an asset.
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to complete multiple, complex, detail-oriented tasks and projects on time.
- Proficiency in French and English (written and spoken). Fluency in English is required for this position, as you will interact with English-speaking suppliers, stakeholders or clients
- Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite.
