Salary (CAD): $81,700 - $96,100 (Commensurate with experience) Location: Toronto (Hybrid Work Model) ABOUT THE ROLE: The Consultant Technologist (CT) is a member of IQMH’s Centre for Proficiency Testing team. The Proficiency Testing (PT) team is responsible for planning, designing, preparing, and coordinating PT models. The Consultant Technologist analyzes statistical data from participating laboratories and presents summarized data, technical reports, and discordant findings investigations to the Scientific Committees. This role will support and address discussions, follow-ups, and comments from the Scientific Committees. The Consultant Technologist works collaboratively within a team-based environment across multiple laboratory disciplines to promote consistency, knowledge sharing, and alignment of PT practices.

Main Responsibilities

Align PT activities with the ISO/IEC 17043 standard. Plan, design, develop, validate, and manage the delivery and execution of PT surveys to participating laboratories in collaboration with Scientific Committees. Prepare reports and support coordination and facilitation of PT-related meetings (Scientific Committee meetings, PT Survey Planning meetings, Professional Advisory Committee (PAC) meetings, and internal/external audits). Monitor and maintain electronic records of participating laboratories’ performance, including documenting performance concerns and communicating with participating laboratories and regulatory bodies (e.g., Ministry of Health), as required. Collaborate with Scientific Committees to support and guide laboratory best practices through publications and communications (e.g., abstracts, posters, consensus practice recommendations, and professional development activities). Collaborate across multiple laboratory disciplines to ensure consistency, continuous quality improvement, and knowledge sharing of PT practices, while providing guidance to internal and external stakeholders, as required. Lead and support the delivery of PT programs across disciplines and contribute to the development, review, and implementation of procedures and documentation to support standardization. Demonstrate flexibility to support PT programs across multiple disciplines as required. Participate in product development activities to support the expansion of PT programs, including market research, competitor analysis, material sourcing, product specification development, material and design validation, documentation management, and monitoring project timelines.

Must Have Qualifications

General Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) obtained from an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology program Successful completion of the MLT certification exam provided by the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS). Member in good standing with College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO). Minimum of 6 years of recent clinical laboratory experience as a General Medical Laboratory technologist with strong knowledge of laboratory practices and quality control. Experience with point-of-care, molecular/Virology, chemistry, and hematology testing in a clinical laboratory setting. Demonstrated ability to support innovation and contribute to product development initiatives, including expansion of point-of-care and related testing programs. Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational and meeting facilitation skills. Strong customer service orientation with the ability to effectively engage and support internal teams, external partners, and participating laboratories. Ability to collaborate effectively within a team and as an independent contributor. Proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications, particularly Word and Excel.

Desired Qualifications

Knowledge and understanding of quality control practice and associated statistical analysis. Understanding and application of quality management systems and root cause analysis. Quality Assurance or Quality Management certification. Project Management certification.
