About the role

Senior Events & Sales Manager

Royal Vancouver Yacht Club

The Royal Vancouver Yacht Club is looking for an accomplished and people-centred hospitality leader to join our team asSenior Events & Sales Manager.

This is a senior role at the heart of our member experience — equal parts relationship builder, skilled event professional, and proactive sales leader. Reporting to our Operations and Food & Beverage leaders, you will be responsible for growing our private events program through thoughtful outreach and genuine member connection, while ensuring every event — from an intimate dinner to a landmark celebration — is executed with care, precision, and the warmth that defines life at the Club.

We are looking for someone who is as comfortable championing a new sales opportunity as they are ensuring the flowers are perfect the morning of a wedding. You bring both the commercial instincts to grow a program and the hospitality heart to make every member feel like their event is the most important one we've ever hosted.

Key Responsibilities

Sales & Business Development

  • Own the Club's private events revenue targets, balancing proactive outreach with exceptional service to convert opportunities into memorable occasions.
  • Develop and execute an annual events sales strategy in collaboration with senior leadership, tracking performance and reporting on results with transparency and accountability.
  • Proactively engage members throughout the year to identify upcoming milestones and introduce event offerings that add genuine value to their Club experience.
  • Identify new event business opportunities — including curated Club-hosted occasions, member celebrations, and special programming — that deepen member engagement and optimize use of the Club's spaces.
  • Conduct warm, compelling consultations and site tours that bring the Club's event potential to life for prospective hosts.
  • Champion thoughtful upsell opportunities across menus, experiences, and enhancements — always in service of a better event, never at the expense of trust.
  • Secure deposits and event agreements professionally and in a timely manner, maintaining clear financial records throughout.

Member Experience & Event Management

  • Serve as the senior point of contact for all private and catering events, building genuine, long-term relationships with members and their guests.
  • Guide members through every stage of the planning journey — from initial conversation through menu design, floor plans, and the final moments of a beautifully executed event.
  • Prepare thorough event documentation including Banquet Event Orders (BEOs), event confirmations, and detailed floor plans, ensuring nothing is left to chance.
  • Ensure every member and host feels informed, confident, and genuinely excited about their upcoming event well before the day arrives.
  • Be present and engaged during event execution, serving as the calm, capable senior liaison between members and operational teams.

Operational Coordination

  • Work closely and collaboratively with the Food & Beverage Manager, Banquet Manager, Executive Chef, and Operations leadership to bring every event to life seamlessly.
  • Provide clear, timely weekly and daily event briefings to culinary, service, and operations teams to support staffing and planning.
  • Coordinate beverage and liquor requirements with the Club Sommelier in advance of upcoming events.
  • Participate actively in weekly Operations, Catering, and Food & Beverage leadership meetings.
  • Ensure all teams have everything they need — well ahead of time — to deliver at their best.

Financial & Administrative Oversight

  • Share accountability for banquet revenue performance, actively managing your sales pipeline to meet monthly and annual targets.
  • Review banquet billing carefully for accuracy before submission to accounting.
  • Prepare monthly event revenue summaries and performance reports for senior leadership.
  • Ensure all deposits, invoicing, and collections are handled professionally and in accordance with Club policies.
  • Partner with accounting to keep financial records clean and balances current.

Cross-Departmental Collaboration

  • Provide daily event details to the Front Desk to support member communications and lobby displays.
  • Maintain an accurate and up-to-date master calendar of all upcoming and prospective events.
  • Share member feedback — both celebrations and opportunities for growth — with the broader leadership team.
  • Escalate any operational concerns promptly and professionally to the right people.

What You Bring

  • 6–8 years of progressive experience in catering sales, event management, and hospitality leadership, with a track record of success in a senior capacity.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet or exceed sales targets within a private club, luxury hotel, or upscale hospitality environment — through proactive effort, not just inbound inquiries.
  • Genuine warmth and skill in building lasting relationships with members, guests, and colleagues alike.
  • Strong operational fluency across both event sales and banquet execution — you understand what it takes on both sides of the pass.
  • Experience coordinating complex, multi-stakeholder events with grace and attention to detail.
  • Post-secondary education in hospitality management, event management, or a related field preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and event management platforms; Jonas experience is a strong asset.
  • Serving It Right certification required.
