Bilingualism is required as this is a collaborative role at the national level and the candidate will be handling and following up on various requests from the firm lawyers who has both French and English speaking clients. This position also requires the candidate to be able to interact seamlessly with Lawyers and Colleagues in our offices across Canada on a daily basis, where English is the predominant language. This position must be performed in English and French, and in order to ensure that the employee in this position can perform their duties autonomously and effectively, candidates for this position must be able to communicate appropriately in French and English both orally and in writing.

We are recruiting for a Bilingual Trust Account Coordinator to join our team in our Montreal office. The successful candidate must have a minimum of 3 years of experience in trust or treasury department and will be responsible for [deposits, investments and payments in/from our trust accounts. As a Bilingual Trust Accounts Coordinator, you will be:

  • Supervising day-to-day trust operations.
  • Providing guidance to other departments like A/P and Cash application.
  • Performing clerical functions related to trust accounting, including the following:
    • Handling trust deposits, including preparing bank deposits and updating trust registers.
    • Record wire transfers received in our trust accounts
    • Preparing and distributing trust cheques as required.
    • Preparing wire transfers and obtain the required electronic signatures from partners.
    • Establishing, redeeming and coordinating with banks and staff/lawyers, all trust investments and updating registers accordingly.
    • Ensuring that reconciling items on monthly bank reconciliations are cleared on a timely basis.
    • Handling trust inquiries from staff, lawyers and banks as required.
    • Reconciling and distributing annual T5’s received from the banks.
    • Gathering beneficiary information to prepare the T3 returns.
    • Posting monthly and annual interests of invested funds.
    • Adhering to all law society trust rules and firm trust policies.
    • Filing/imaging all documents relating to trust for proper audit trails.
    • Preparing trust analysis reports as required.
  • Acting as back-up for other accounting positions and special projects as required.
  • Completing law society annual trust forms as required.
  • Preparing annual trust balance information for banks for insurance purposes (CDIC)

As our ideal candidate, you will distinguish yourself by the following profile:

  • College Diploma in Accounting.
  • Minimum 3 years of accounting experience.
  • Experience with banking is an asset.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Basic accounting knowledge and skills.
  • Bilingualism (French and English, oral and written) is required.
