**Location:**Toronto, ON - Don Mills (On-site)

About the role: Global News is looking for a Writer to join their MMC/OTT team, based out of Toronto (Don Mills). Reporting to the Executive Producer of MMC/OTT, the successful candidate would be responsible for ensuring the headlines that appear on the "L-frame" are accurate, current, and relevant for the market, additionally they would also be responsible for writing OTT stories and news items. This role requires working a variety of shifts including early mornings, days, evenings, weekends, and holidays. This is a Group 1 position under the current collective agreement.

You will contribute by: The following is a paraphrase of the primary functions and does not outline all the duties and responsibilities for this position:

  • Writing news stories including on-camera voiceovers, sound on tape, and picking out video clips and visuals.

  • Updating "L-frame" one-liner headlines across the Global News network; ensuring they are accurate, current, and relevant to the local market.

  • Working with a team of producers and editors in creating comprehensive, accurate, timely and informative news content for our streaming service.

  • Working with producers and fellow writers to maintain Global News editorial standards.

  • Identifying creative opportunities to ensure our programming is dynamic, engaging, and intelligent.

  • Performing other duties as required

Skills and experience you will bring:

  • Post-secondary education in journalism, broadcast television, or a related field.

  • Previous experience working in a news related role is preferred.

  • Passionate about journalism and television news; eager to strengthen your skills for a career in the news industry.

  • Excellent communication and writing skills.

  • Ability to write web, text, and social media content.

  • Understanding of news industry and ability to respond quickly and knowledgably to breaking news.

  • Strong collaborator and willingness to ask for help when needed.

  • Ability to work well in a team environment as well as independently under minimal supervision.

  • A positive, can-do attitude.
