Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the Executive Director, Marketing and Branding, manage the operations of the studio with responsibilities including graphic design, video production, and multimedia for live events. This role involves overseeing the creative process, providing art direction, and contributing to design work. Ensure that all creative outputs align with the university's brand and strategic goals. Implement a new creative process and deliver top-quality creative work. Directly manage a team of professional staff including Graphic Designers, Video production and multimedia.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the studio team, including graphic designers, videographers, and multimedia event coordinators.
- Brief, influence, coach, mentor and guide others by providing senior professional expertise to the unit.
- In collaboration with the Executive Director, participate and contribute to implementing strategic plans, short/medium-term goals and objectives of the unit.
- Identify opportunities and oversee the proactive planning, production and dissemination of projects.
- Foster a collaborative and innovative team environment.
- Provide mentorship to members of the 12-person studio team.
- Develop and implement creative directions that align with the University's brand and objectives.
- Oversee the conceptualization and execution of design projects, video productions, and events.
- Ensure consistency and quality across all creative outputs.
- Participate in design work, including graphic design, layout, and visual storytelling.
- Provide art direction for various projects, ensuring a cohesive and compelling visual identity.
- Collaborate with other departments to support their creative needs.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to budgets.
- Chair meetings with internal and external stakeholders to obtain requirements and feedback.
- Evaluate project progress and adjust as needed.
- Maintain and enhance the University's brand identity through creative initiatives.
- Ensure all creative materials adhere to brand guidelines and standards.
- Stay updated on industry trends and best practices to keep the university's creative efforts current and effective.
- Directly manage a team of professional Graphic Designers and manage the studio team with responsibilities including graphic design, video production, and multimedia for live events.
- Participate in the hiring with HR an prepare performance dialogue reviews/complete probation and trial period forms.
- Meet regularly with the team to disperse information, redistribute workload, provide coaching, mentoring and training to employees.
- Reset new goals and objectives and deadlines
- Approve vacation and keep track of absences.
Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities
- 8+ years Client side or agency experience required
- Demonstrated leadership in managing multidisciplinary creative teams in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Strong conceptual and strategic thinking skills with the ability to translate complex ideas into compelling visual narratives.
- Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and other industry-standard design and AI design tools.
- Proven ability to implement and optimize creative workflows and processes that enhance team productivity and output quality.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively across diverse stakeholder groups.
- Deep understanding of brand development, visual identity systems, and integrated marketing communications.
- Experience in mentoring and developing creative talent, fostering a culture of innovation, inclusion, and continuous improvement.
- Strong project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects, prioritize tasks, and meet tight deadlines.
- Familiarity with accessibility standards and inclusive design principles in multimedia and visual communications.
- Up-to-date knowledge of trends in design and multimedia storytelling, with a passion for creative excellence and innovation.
