About the role

GEF Seniors Housing is the largest provider of affordable supportive living residences for low to moderate income seniors in Alberta. As a leading provider of safe, affordable, quality accommodations, we offer competitive salaries & excellent working conditions for our team of employees.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drive the GEF bus (16-passenger) and/or GEF van (11-passenger) in accordance with scheduled routes and Activity & Wellness Program needs across all GEF communities
  • Assist seniors on and off the bus/van, ensuring comfort and safety at all times
  • Load, secure, and unload walkers, wheelchairs, and other mobility equipment
  • Complete pre-trip and post-trip inspections and report any maintenance issues
  • Clean, re-fuel, and maintain general cleanliness of vehicles
  • Act as trip supervisor as needed, ensuring all seniors are accounted for
  • Follow GEF’s Health and Safety Wellness Program policies and procedures
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Life Enrichment Manager or designate

Experience/Education Preference:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required
  • Valid Class 4 Driver’s License with a satisfactory driver’s abstract is required
  • Experience driving passenger buses or vans, preferably with seniors or individuals with special needs
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a warm, patient, and customer-focused approach
  • Physical ability to assist seniors with mobility aids
  • Knowledge of basic vehicle maintenance is an asset

  • Superior patience and empathy when working with seniors
  • Customer-focused approach, ensuring comfort and satisfaction of residents during travel
  • Ability to meet schedules reliably and respond calmly to unexpected situations
  • Strong English communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Safety-conscious mindset, adhering to traffic laws and company safety policies

Details: Casual

Pay Scale: $25.80 - $35.68 per hour

Location: Central Services, 14220 - 109 Avenue NW, Edmonton, AB T5N 4B3 (travel between other GEF sites is required, mileage paid).

We offer a wide selection of seniors’ self-contained apartments and lodge accommodations throughout Edmonton, to give seniors more choices of where they want to live.

In 2019, GEF Seniors Housing celebrated 60 years of serving Edmonton seniors.

In 1959, our organization was established under provincial legislation as Greater Edmonton Foundation (GEF). In the 1960s the Alberta government built retirement homes throughout Alberta, called lodges, for low-income seniors. The province continued to build these homes until 1984.

Under an agreement between the City of Edmonton and the Alberta government, the City provided land for the buildings and the provincial government built the lodges. Foundations were established to manage the lodges in one or more municipal districts or counties in the province. The Greater Edmonton Foundation was one of these foundations. In 2012, we changed our name to GEF Seniors Housing.

Since 1959, we have continued working with the community as an active partner in the important work of providing quality housing for seniors in Edmonton and its surrounding communities. Our self-contained apartment buildings and lodges offer accessible, affordable and safe housing in comfortable, supportive environments that promote opportunities for seniors to successfully age in place.
