Job Summary:
As the Commercial Programs Underwriting Assistant, you will manage a diverse range of underwriting administrative and data-related tasks essential for risk assessment and the processing and reporting of commercial insurance policies under the Company’s Commercial Programs portfolio.
Core Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the internal reporting of commercial program business, including booking monthly commercial insurance premiums for company financials.
- Apply analytical techniques and specialized company software to accurately reconcile premium data with brokers, per company reporting guidelines.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships with contracted program brokers. Oversee monthly data collection for reporting, verifying data accuracy, completeness, and appropriate formatting for underwriting purposes.
- Use Excel-based tools such as pivot tables and matching formulas to identify inconsistencies.
- Work collaboratively with brokers to obtain missing information, reconcile premiums, and finalize monthly reports for underwriter review.
- Summarize performance trends and collaborate with the underwriting team on new program opportunities and processing requirements, ensuring alignment with corporate underwriting approaches and philosophies.
- Prepare underwriting portfolio summary reports by organizing performance metrics into key graphs and visuals to illustrate the performance results of specific programs.
- Handle special projects and other duties or responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications, Education & Experience:
- Advanced Excel skills, including the ability to create and format complex spreadsheets, develop and apply formulas, utilize pivot tables for comparative analysis, and generate charts and visuals to illustrate key performance metrics.
- Ability to automate data processes, troubleshoot formula errors to ensure data integrity and support underwriting and reporting functions.
- Possess 1 to 3 years working experience of commercial casualty and property insurance and/or knowledge of transaction processing in the financial industry
- Demonstrate a quick learning ability and a commitment to continuous personal and professional growth.
- Exhibit excellent oral and written communication skills, strong analytical capabilities, and advanced computer literacy.
- Ability to build and maintain excellent relations with brokers and provide superior service
- Team oriented and ability to work effectively with peers
- Possess exceptional time management and prioritization abilities to consistently meet daily demands and deadlines, ensuring all service requirements are fulfilled.
- CIP designation or actively working towards completion of CIP courses
- Bilingualism (French and English) is an asset
The base salary range for this position is CAD 50,000 - CAD 65,000 annually. The offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, experience, qualifications and work location. All offers include access to a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, an employee wellness program, life and disability insurance, retirement savings plan, paid holidays and paid time off (PTO). This position is a current vacancy.
