Description:About us:The Engineering Career Centre (ECC) connects University of Toronto students with meaningful professional experiences that provide a solid foundation for successful careers and life-long learning. In addition to hosting a wide range of professional development workshops, events and services throughout the year, the ECC team runs two work-integrated learning programs to connect engineering students with a wide range of industry opportunities. As passionate and career-driven academic professionals, the ECC team seeks to nurture students and provide a comfortable transition from academic to professional life.Your opportunity:The ECC team runs work-integrated learning programs to connect engineering students with a wide range of industry opportunities. In addition to offering the PEY Co-op program, the ECC supports the newly launched Master of Engineering Co-op program. The MEng Co-op Officer will work alongside highly skilled experiential learning professional guiding graduate students to enhance their technical competencies, strengthen their networks, and build their professional experience before graduation. MEng Co-op students complete an 8-month co-op work term after their first year of studies. Reporting to the Executive Director, Engineering Career & Experiential Learning (EXCEL), the role supports students registered in the MEng Co-op program through preparatory programming and guiding them to engage in fast paced recruitment activities.Your responsibilities will include:
Advising students on job search, industry research and networking strategies including cover letter, resume and interview preparation Developing program components to foster students' individual career development process Identifying, fostering and maintaining relationships with potential and existing employers Promoting programming, student needs and interests to employers and industry contacts Preparing draft statistical reports and summaries from data collected Providing detailed information on program and/or course eligibility requirements, procedures, policies and deadlines
Essential Qualifications:
Master's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience. Minimum 5 years’ relevant experience working in co-op or experiential learning with a combination of both student development and employer relations. Experience facilitating highly engaging presentations, group sessions, and workshops. Professional experience advising students on relevant career-related matters. Experience promoting career-related programsand leading events and workshops. Relevant experience in the administration and interpretation of academic policies and procedures. Experience in data analysis and preparing comprehensive reports and summaries to guide managerial planning and operations. Strong proficiency with Microsoft Programs (including but not limited to Teams, MS Bookings, PPT, MSForms, Excel and Word) or equivalent systems. Demonstrated ability to build and nurture strong professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Excellent oral, written communication and presentation skills, with the proven ability to explain complex processes to a wide range of audiences. Proven ability to organize, prioritize, manage and meet multiple competing deadlines with high flexibility, accuracy and attention to detail. Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills with the demonstrated capability to effectively work independently, within a team, and under direction. Proven ability to practice strong professionalism, tact, discretion, initiative, confidentiality, and sound judgment. Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion and the promotion of a respectful and collegial learning and work environment.
Assets (Nonessential):
Previous experience working with experiential learning at the graduate level. Proficient in the use of Learning Management Systems (e.g Moodle, Canvas) and Customer Relationship Management tools (e.g Orbis, Symplicity).
