Job Summary

A Brief Overview

Reporting to the Manager, Career Education and Coaching, the Student Leadership and Skill Development Coordinator has a primary focus on facilitating the learning, development, and engagement of students and student leaders at Queen's University. The incumbent provides expertise as part of a team of professional and student staff in the Student Experience and Career Development portfolio to design, deliver, and evaluate a broad range of educational interventions, leadership and community engagement initiatives, and specialized services that facilitate the personal, social, academic, and professional success of students and student leaders.

Using current research and best practices, the Coordinator is responsible for advising on and taking an active role in the creation, development, implementation, and evaluation of programs and services related to student leadership, involvement, and community-engaged learning, as well as programs and opportunities to support student learning and development in areas of critical thinking, self-awareness, civic engagement, health and wellness, career readiness, and transferrable skill development that contribute to students' future academic and professional pathways.

The Coordinator leads a campus-wide student leadership curriculum, including the Leadership Skills Workshop Series, a co-curricular certificate program, and the semi-annual Leadership Summits. The role also provides centralized peer training coordination across multiple departments, supports the integration of skill-building into student employment and academic settings, and collaborates with campus partners on inclusive leadership initiatives. The Coordinator supervises student staff, supports outcome-based assessment, and manages event planning and resource development aligned with institutional goals related to student success, equity, and career readiness.

This position designs, develops, oversees, delivers, and evaluates academic resources including programs, workshops, training, and services for students and stakeholders. This position oversees projects related to the development of experiential learning programs and professional development. This position evaluates and researches comparators and best practices in student development and experiential learning. This position also directs, allocates, and supervises the work of other staff.

The schedule for this position requires the incumbent to work evenings and weekends.

Job Description
What you will do Designs, develops, oversees, delivers, and evaluates programs, workshops, training, and services for students and stakeholders.

Oversees projects related to the development of experiential learning programs and professional development.

Evaluates and researches comparators and best practices in student development and experiential learning.

Builds partnerships and collaborates with departments across the university and with community partners to promote and implement programs and initiatives that support student success.

Develops resources to support students' academic skill development.

Develops program content for websites.

Directs, allocates, and supervises the work of other staff.

  • Other duties as required in support of the department and/or unit.

Required Education

  • Four-Year Bachelor Degree or equivalent. In addition, requires trade certification, qualification, or on-going learning to remain ahead of changes in technology or emerging fields.

Required Experience

  • More than 3 years and up to and including 5 years of experience.
    • Experience developing, coordinating, and implementing student development and/or student experience programs considered an asset.

    • Experience working at a post-secondary education institution considered an asset.

Required Licenses and Certifications Satisfactory Criminal Records Check required.

  • Vulnerable Sector Screening required.

Consideration may be given to an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Contribute to the creation and evaluation of possible solutions.

  • Take action to remove obstacles and address problems before the impact performance and results.

  • Apply equity, diversity, accessibility, inclusion and Indigenization considerations to decision making and planning.

  • Promote a work environment that is free from sexual violence, harassment and discrimination, and the ability to show empathy for those who have experienced trauma.

  • Assess the suitability of job candidates and recommend the most appropriate person for hire.

  • Monitor and assess output and the quality of work from team members and recommend need for formal training or development plans to management and identify possible performance and/or disciplinary issues.
