As a Lead Training Officer, Light Rail Transit (LRT) you lead a team of Training Officers who deliver technical and system safety training to trainees, LRT Operators and other internal and external clients who work with, or around Calgary Transit (CT) assets. Primary duties include:
- Oversee the delivery training to trainees, Transit Operators and other internal and external clients who work with or around CT assets.
- Ensure classroom training, on-board training, online instruction, hands-on practical, simulator experience and regular coaching sessions are conducted effectively and efficiently.
- Evaluate and document performance throughout training, compile related documentation for Transit Operators who do not meet training standards and recommend action to the coordinator such as remedial training and opportunities for improving.
- Review training assessments provided by Training Officers and determine trainee status.
- Create training schedules that consider forecasts, priorities, and availability of operational staff and budget.
- Provide input to the CT curriculum development.
- Act as a point of contact for external vendors, contractors, and clients.
- Compile training related forecasts and requirements, meet with CT and other business unit staff to identify anticipated training needs and schedule maintenance to CT assets and consider the needs for various training.
- Supervise a team, support setting goals and objectives, coach, mentor, and support succession planning and manage performance.
- Develop procedures and provide input on the commissioning of new vehicles.
- Retain proficiency on existing vehicles, equipment, and machinery through regular use and training, including re-certification.
Qualifications
- A completed 1-year certificate in adult education or a related field and at least 4 years of experience that includes training and leading teams.
- Equivalent combinations of experience and education may be considered.
- The successful applicant must have excellent knowledge of transit operations and procedures.
- A strong technical knowledge of light rail vehicles.
- Experience and competence with developing effective presentations, facilitating within a classroom setting, and establishing and building strong working relationships.
- A valid Class 5 Driver's Licence (or provincial equivalent) with no more than three demerits and no current suspensions or charges pending.
- The successful applicant must have the ability to meet and maintain medical requirements for LRT operations (equivalent to a Class 2 Licence Medical).
- Ability to obtain a City of Calgary operator's permit.
- Expertise on all different types of maintenance equipment, machinery, hoists and overhead cranes in an asset.
- The ability to work with employees at all levels, effective communication skills, use of good judgement when making decisions and solving problems, negotiating and influencing skills, planning and time management skills, presentation skills, and the ability to encourage and motivate people.
Working Conditions: Works around dangerous vehicles, machinery, and equipment on the LRT right-of-way. Occasionally you will perform light physical duties in all types of weather such as throwing stiches, walking the LRT right-of-way, and boarding or exiting the train at locations other than platforms.
Pre-employment Requirements
- A security clearance and a vulnerable sector check will be conducted.
- Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.
Pre-employment Drug Test: An offer of employment for this position will be conditional on an applicant passing a pre-employment drug test. This test assesses for use of drugs including cannabis. Failure to pass a pre-employment drug test may prevent an applicant from being hired into any safety sensitive position for a period of up to twelve months.

Compensation: Level A1 $100,531 - 125,664 per annum
Days of Work: This position works a 5 day
