TAG Hardware designs, engineers, and manufactures products for the closet and modular furniture industry. Our 100,000 square foot manufacturing plant is located in South Surrey, British Columbia. The facility also houses our head office, plastic injection molding machines, a powder coating line, assembly work stations, and a warehouse, where we develop and produce our patented products for customers globally.
Our products are seen frequently in a variety of media spaces including home improvement shows and major design magazines. About the Role - Job Description
We are looking for an ambitious Industrial Designer to help us design and create our industry-leading hardware. You will focus on developing, improving and creating concepts, prototypes and / or specifications to solve given challenges for hardware within the modular furniture industry. You will be a key part of the product development team and will be responsible for developing innovative, aesthetic and inspiring designs. In short, the objective is to create new products that will meet and/or exceed market expectations in both the United States and Canada.
You are highly self-motivated, pro-active and have a working knowledge of current design tools and techniques used to bring highly functional products to market. You are exceptionally creative, with fantastic communication skills and excellent time management.
To ensure success, you should be detail-oriented and have a solid understanding of industrial design processes including the use of solid modeling software, rendering and design for injection molding. Top candidates will exhibit critical thinking skills, strong problem-solving skills, and a meticulous attention to detail.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Design & develop products and mechanisms within the modular furniture industry using DFMA principles including mold and tool design
- Prototype and test systems for strength and failure modes using simple workshop skills
- Create products within the established manufacturing processes of injection molding, aluminum extrusion, powder coating, profile wrapping, die casting, metal forming, zinc and plastics.
- Project management from design through testing, final prototyping. and product launch
About You - Education and Experience
- A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design or a related Design discipline
- A strong mechanical aptitude coupled with a passion and eye for design and aesthetics, diligence for finding the best solution
- Ability to apply aesthetic sensitivity to mass produced furniture hardware, taking a product from concept to completion
- Experience in Mold and Tool design
- Experience with strength of materials and structures, fasteners and adhesives, stamping and castings
- Attention to detail, spread sheet analysis and strong math skills
- Working knowledge of lean manufacturing / single piece work flow
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
- Proficient with Solidworks / Visualize / Excel / Adobe Suite including 3D rendering skills
- Able to communicate design ideas visually via the above programs; excellent sketching and presentation skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
- Multi-tasking and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks
- Highly organized and detail oriented
- Good communication in English with excellent written and verbal communication skills
