Job Overview

The Senior Accounting Analyst, Corporate Investments, will be responsible for routine journal entries, GL maintenance, and assistance with taxation matters for the credit union. The incumbent will also support the Manager, Finance and the Director, Finance in the preparation of hedge documentation and effectiveness, and the day-to-day administration of FirstOntario's hedge accounting program.

Role

In the role, you will...

  • Prepare monthly accounting for the credit union, including accounting entries, reconciliations, data analysis, and reporting deliverables

  • Lead the preparation of monthly financial reporting for the credit union's investments and other initiatives

  • Prepare quarterly financial statements for the credit union's joint venture partners and subsidiaries

  • Work across various departments to monitor foreign exchange exposure in the alternative investments portfolio and project future foreign exchange cash flows

  • Accountable for the preparation of year end disclosures for real estate joint ventures, investments, and other areas of the balance sheet

  • Prepare year-end financial statements, including all relevant disclosures for FirstOntario's subsidiaries

  • Prepare hedge documentation and hedge effectiveness testing, including maintaining a listing of outstanding hedging instruments and hedge relationships and ensuring all required testing and documentation is completed on a quarterly basis

  • As required, support the Manager, Finance in the preparation of accounting entries and reconciliations for FirstOntario's derivatives portfolio, including interest rate swaps, bond forwards, and foreign exchange derivatives

  • As required, assist in the preparation and filing of corporate tax returns and indirect tax filings for FirstOntario's subsidiaries and joint ventures

  • Assist the Manager, Finance in the preparation of quarterly stress testing and ICAAP reports and calculations

  • Identify and lead automation initiatives to support efficient resource management, enhanced analytics, and improved reporting

  • Ensure strong internal controls over accounting and other processes for the credit union's investments and other areas as required.

  • Ensure processes are documented and provide improvement recommendations as applicable

  • Recommend and document financial policies, procedures, and prepare accounting memos to remain current with internal and external business and regulatory needs.

  • As required, assist the Manager, Finance in preparation of ESG disclosures, including assisting in the development of and reconciliation of various ESG metrics requiring disclosure.

  • Oversee intercompany receivables and invoicing with subsidiaries

  • Liaise directly with other departments and external parties as required to support Finance objectives

  • Consider healthsafety as a primary concern to ensure the safety of self and others

  • Perform other duties as we may need you to do, including assisting other members of the finance and accounting teams

Required Skills

Within your skills and qualifications, you will...

  • Have a post-secondary degree in accounting, finance or business and have a CPA designation or nearing completion
  • Have a minimum of three (3) years' experience, which includes reporting under IFRS
  • Demonstrate your experience performing complex accounting in the areas of, financial instruments, hedge accounting, derivatives, etc.
  • Have sound knowledge of financial accounting principles and apply them in all that you do
  • Be an expert user with Excel and other Microsoft Office products
  • Be proficient with data query/analysis tools
  • Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Be quick to respond to requests for service from all of your clients
  • Innately demonstrate superior written and verbal communication skills
  • Be aware of and mitigate enterprise risk factors and ensure compliance with applicable regulations, legislation and FirstOntario policies and procedures

This position is hybrid in Stoney Creek.

Salary Range: $81,110 to $111,527 annually.

Compensation for this role reflects a combination of skills, experience, and internal equity. Those whose experience more closely aligns the role's requirements may be placed higher within the salary range.
