About the role

Position Overview\nThe Speech-Language Pathologist operates with a high degree of independence as a member of a multidisciplinary regional rehabilitation team. The incumbent participates in the planning, delivery and evaluation of rehabilitation services, using a client centered, goal orientated approach for children and and/or adult populations. These services include assessment, direct intervention, consultation and public/parent/caregiver education and training within a variety of settings, which may include acute care, outpatient, long-term care, client’s home, school and other community settings.\n\nThe Speech-Language Pathologist may also provide clinical supervision and training for students and provisional members and participate in the education of other health care professionals.\n\nThe incumbent exercises the appropriate level of initiative and independent judgment in determining work priorities, work methods to be employed and action to be taken on unusual matters. The position functions in a manner that is consistent with the mission, vision and values; and the policies of Southern Health-Santé Sud.\n\nCurrent caseload is children and youth.\n\n## Experience\n\n * For SLP’s working in Adult Services – experience in assessment, treatment, and/or management of dysphagia.\n\n## Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)\n\n * Masters Degree in Speech-Language Pathology.\n\n## Certification/Licensure/Registration\n\n * Active registration with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Manitoba.\n * Eligible for membership with Speech-Language & Audiology Canada.\n * Completion of and ongoing advanced certification in Videofluoroscopic Swallow Study-Adults, or willing to complete within a mutually agreeable timeframe for Speech Language Pathologist’s working in Adult Services.\n\n## Qualifications and Skills\n\n * Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications and Outlook/Email.\n * Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills.\n * Demonstrated effective decision-making, and problem-solving skills.\n * Demonstrated organizational and time management skills.\n * Demonstrated ability to build and maintain professional working relationships with management and staff within the region as well as appropriate outside vendors and agencies.\n * Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team.\n * Given the cultural diversity of our region, the ability to respect and promote a culturally diverse population is required.\n * Proficiency of both official languages is essential for target and designated bilingual positions.\n * Demonstrated ability to respect confidentiality including paper, electronic formats and other mediums.\n * Good work and attendance record.\n * Requires a valid Class 5 driver’s license, an all-purpose insured vehicle and liability insurance of at least $1,000,000.\n\n## Physical Requirements\n\n * Demonstrated ability to meet the physical and mental demands of the job.\n * No hazardous or significantly unpleasant conditions.\n * May work occasionally evenings and weekends as necessary.\n * Will be required to travel to other regional facilities as the position duties may require.\n\n\n\nApplicants may request reasonable accommodation related to the materials or\nactivities used throughout the selection process.\n\n\n\nSouthern Health-Santé Sud, in partnership with the Indigenous community, is\ncommitted to increasing the representation of Indigenous people within all\nlevels of our workforce.
