About the role

Groundskeeper (Caretaker)

**Reports To:**Homeowner

Summary

The Groundskeeper will be required to plan and perform tasks involving property caretaking and landscaping, orchard work and some equipment maintenance. They must be self-motivated, resourceful, and reliable. Responsibilities will include lawncare, landscaping, painting, irrigation repairs, light mechanical maintenance and ensuring all equipment is ready for use. This position requires the ability to operate a variety of hand tools.

Key Responsibilities

  • Grounds Maintenance including mowing lawns, snow removal, weed removal and general clean up as required
  • Maintain and manage the maintenance schedule and preventative maintenance plan for all Spiers Groundskeeping equipment
  • Light duty mechanics (tractor, farm vehicle, lawnmower, weed trimmer maintenance)
  • Orchard seeding, transplanting, pruning and harvest
  • Maintain/service/program all irrigation systems on property
  • Schedule and plan for landscape maintenance, lawn maintenance and tree maintenance
  • Pool & hot tub maintenance, cleaning, and winterizing
  • Monitor, maintain and clean up of yard and shop
  • Maintain, prepare, fuel up and winterize recreational vehicles
  • Must continue to maintain a current first aid certification
  • Other duties as needed

Qualifications and Experience

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent
  • Previous experience as a landscaping labourer preferred
  • Knowledge of workplace safety and safe lifting and handling procedures
  • Knowledge of first aid and CPR preferred (OFA1 or OFA2 in B.C.)
  • Certified in the use of:Skid-Steer(Bobcat}, andTractorpreferred
  • Ability to operate required equipment in a safe and responsible manner (tractor and/or large mowers)
  • Must possess a valid Driver's licence
  • Knowledge of appropriate materials, methods and the tools required in various landscaping/construction processes and needed to do a job
  • Strong working mechanical knowledge of machines and tools including their designs, uses, repair and maintenance
  • Ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time and perform strenuous physical labour under adverse field conditions
  • Ability to work independently and complete daily activities according to work schedule
  • Able to email/text and communicate effectively using electronic methods
  • Physical ability to lift 75-pounds repeatedly throughout the day
  • Overtime as required
  • Hazards associated with the trade
  • Work both indoors and outdoors
