Hours of work: 10-12 hours per week
Internal applications for this position within the UFCW bargaining unit must be received within 7 days of being posted to have seniority considered in the selection process.
What you’ll be doing:
- Supervise patients and assist with fitness floor supervision to ensure safety and accident prevention
- Ensure rules and boundaries are followed by patients
- Address inappropriate or unsafe behaviours with patients and report any concerns to clinical team and management
- Consult with patients regarding their fitness goals and instruct them on how to properly and safely use the equipment
- Support all patient/staff programs and encourage the use of other recreation facilities (e.g. tennis courts, gymnasium, and grounds)
- Conduct tours of the fitness centre and promote programs and services available
- Respond to telephone and email inquiries
- Sign-out recreation equipment and keep inventory of items available for patient use
- Record patient and staff “sign-in” statistics
- Make appointments for Integrated Health Clinic (massage, physiotherapy, osteopathy)
What we are looking for:
- Diploma in Recreation Leadership, Recreation Therapy, Kinesiology, Health Studies or related field
- Experience working with mental health and addictions populations
- Must have valid CPR Certification
- Personal Training/Group Fitness training an asset
- Ability to perform exercises and movements as demonstrations for patients
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment
- Mature with a genuine interest in a variety of individuals and commitment to providing quality service to diverse populations
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Evidence of good work and attendance record
- Commitment to working within Homewood’s Health and Safety Standards
