Purpose** Reporting to the Senior Geologist, the Mine Geologist will conduct underground geological mapping, sampling and Grade Control activities for Hoyle Pond Mine. Collect, process, compile, interpret, and report geologic information and using this information, coordinate and collaborate with others to effectively and efficiently execute the Hoyle Pond Mine Plan. Work effectively and efficiently within the Mine Geology team, with other departments including Mine Technical Services, Mine Operations, and with contractors to maximize ore recovery and minimize dilution.
Responsibilities
- Underground Geological Mapping and Sampling: Conduct underground geological mapping and sampling using industry-standard techniques and software on daily visits to underground headings at Hoyle Pond Mine. Responsible for personal safety and regard for the on-going safety of co-workers. Responsible for the location selection and completion of grade control sampling and the ongoing implementation and monitoring of QA/QC protocols to ensure data integrity. Utilize geological and other software such as LeapfrogGeo, Deswik, and Fusion to record, compile, and report geological mapping and sample results.
- Underground Mining Grade Control: Responsible for underground grade control using daily visits to underground production areas, interpretation of geological datasets, collaboration with Mine Technical Servies and Mine Operations, and sound judgement. Effectively collaborate with Mine Technical Services, Mine Operations and contractors to optimize maximum ore extraction and minimize dilution into the ore stream.
- Drilling and Sampling: Monitor daily progress of active drilling programs (including diamond drilling and other types of drilling). Complete logging of drill core as required. Monitor and provide guidance sample collection for other types of sampling including drilled test holes. Ensure sampling procedures, QAQC and Chain of Custody standards are maintained according to Company protocols for all types of sampling.
- Drilling Oversight and Safety Compliance: Monitor daily drilling progress of active programs. Ensure QAQC, Chain of Custody, and Health, Safety and Environmental standards are maintained according to Company protocols and policies by conducting regular drill rig visits and inspections to ensure compliance.
- Mining Target Generation: Integrate geological, geochemical, and geophysical datasets to develop and refine gold mineralization concepts and geological models to identify and prioritize mining targets.
- Data Compilation and Interpretation: Utilize industry-standard geological software to compile, visualize, and interpret 3D spatial, geological, and assay data. Ensure timely and accurate plotting of results to support Grade Control decisions.
- Targeting and Drill Planning: Contribute to delineation drilling target selection and drill program design. Prepare drill hole layouts and provide clear guidance to drill crews to ensure accurate collar positioning and orientation.
- Other duties as required.
Training and Education
- Bachelor of Science (Geology) degree or Mine or Geological Technician diploma.
- Must hold or be eligible to obtain Professional Geologist designation.

2 years of experience in underground mining, particularly within an Archean shear zone-hosted gold deposit(s) is preferred
- Good interpersonal and communication skills. Innovative and a proven ability to work with others.
- Working knowledge of the MS Office, database, GIS, or geological software is an asset.
- Ability to communicate clearly & confidently, on a timely basis.
- Industry-standard training in First-Aid, WHMIS is an asset.
- Underground Common Core is an asset.
