We are currently seeking an Inventory Control & Purchasing Specialist to be based in our North York, Ontario location.
Job Summary
As the Inventory Control & Purchasing Specialist, you will be responsible for managing inventory levels and controlling purchasing from multiple factories. This role is KPI-driven with a strong focus to identify and execute opportunities to optimize inventory turns and reduce cost while exceling with high fill rates. The role also requires a need for experience in importing product from overseas into Canada.
Key Responsibilities

Process PO orders with our suppliers as required
-
Manually review, receive and enter daily orders into the ERP, ensuring process is followed and executed
-
Oversee receipt entry of all purchase orders by addressing any exceptions that may arise during receiving activities
-
Complete all change orders and delivery expedite requests
-
Item maintenance: setting up new part numbers as required
-
Monitor deliveries and shipments to reconcile inventory, and follow up on late shipments from factories overseas to receiving dock
-
Assist with all required stock adjustments, scrap product & obsolete items as assigned, along with month-end reporting activities
-
Monitor the levels of raw material to mitigate shortages
-
Monitor and adjust SOQ’s levels and make appropriate stocking decisions
-
Monitor and respond to changes in regional demand affecting inventory levels and service levels
-
Utilize reports, inventory applications and processes to achieve inventory availability and fill rate objectives
-
Review inventory performance, identifying root cause for stock outs and developing plans to close the gap
-
Maintain, monitor and action KPIs
-
Employ continuous improvement approaches to identify opportunities to reduce costs related to replenishment and inventory stocking practices
-
Identify and trouble-shoot products that are underperforming expected service levels and develop appropriate response plans
-
Work with Sales to generate forecast plans and provide slow moving inventory lists to sales
-
Organize, maintain, and keep track of materials, parts and for custom jobs, special work orders, finishing outside of the building and kit building
-
Special projects (i.e. master data setup, Bill of Materials projects, participate in ERP implementation)

Work with freight forwarders to obtain rates, book and follow shipments
-
Responsible for presenting vendor documentation to customs broker
-
Arrange delivery with local carrier for cleared shipments

Other responsibilities as required
Key Competencies
-
Working knowledge of inventory management software within an ERP
-
Being able to work with custom product and re-work processes
-
Strong quantitative skills and ability to perform and create meaningful reports
-
Working knowledge of importing process from overseas into Canada
-
Excellent organizational and planning skills
-
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel
-
A sense of urgency and ability to deal with change and shifting demands within the business environment
-
Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities
-
Develop and maintain effective relationships to provide value-added support services through inventory programs, processes, policies and initiatives
-
Prior experience working on project teams.
Education and Experience
-
BSc/BA in business administration or logistics or relevant field
-
Relevant qualifications (e.g. CPIM or CITT) are an asset
-
Progressive experience of 4-5 years’ experience as an Inventory Coordinator or similar position
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
-
Ability to navigate through the warehouse facility on a routine basis (2X 40,000 sq ft)
-
Must be able to travel to factories within Canada and the U.S.
