Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in identification, prioritization and selection of potential projects in all areas of the business to optimize existing processes for waste reduction and cost control.
  • Develop business cases and/or project summaries; prepare needs analysis and problem definition; identify current state, desired future state, and gap.
  • Participate in and lead projects resulting in process improvements and waste reduction.
  • Review and analyze reports on metrics from Operations team and work alongside IT department to determine technical approaches and solutions to increase process efficiency.
  • Work closely with the Operations and IT departments to recommend and implement process improvement initiatives.
  • Business lead for IT on projects to enhance improvement of processes and Transport Management Systems (TMS-Truckmate, Mobile Software, Rating software, ext).
    • Optimize operational functionality resulting from information inefficiencies, to help improve proactivity, level of service and cost performance.
    • Provide leadership and knowledge sharing of Truckmate to dramatically increase utilization of Truckmate throughout the organization.
    • Business owner of Truckmate/Business architect/Data quality /Change mgmt. process.
  • Liaison routinely with various stakeholders to determine the status and efficiency of new initiatives.
  • Improve business process and operations related information capture through transport systems and programs for Transport Operations in order to support financial, strategic and growth objectives of the transport division.
  • Measurement of the Transportation networks cost and service performance, analysis, implementation and development of improvement initiatives
  • Support operations and Sales in the on-boarding of new accounts, working to review and streamline SOP’s, act as initial primary contact for major account implementation and support
  • Support daily/weekly KPI analysis and write/ update customer operations SOPs
  • Determine efficient utilization of resources by analyzing layouts, labour force, and equipment use; Support the business development team by participating in the solution development of RFPs, Conduct time studies.
  • Facilitate an ROI analysis to ensure the solution will be beneficial to the business for any new technology requirements or upgrades
  • Facilitate and conduct training of supervisors/leaders and team members in efficiency methodologies. Complete all training and obtain sign off for each new process/step.
  • Spread a culture of continuous improvement throughout organization and drive measurable business process improvement. Coach/mentor supervisors and staff at all levels of the organization in the use of Lean tools (productivity reports, labour reports etc) and efficiency methodologies to ensure timely completion of projects to deliver planned results.
  • Facilitate project team meetings and provide guidance and support to team leaders. Work with staff to identify problems, analyze information and develop and implement process solutions. Identify barriers to success and solicit help from leadership as needed. Report to Management as required on progress of projects.
  • Oversee the pass off to the owner of the new process once new process has been tested and implemented.
  • Ensure that project deliverables are on time, within budget and at the required level of quality.
  • Any other tasks and projects as required.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Degree in Engineering or Industrial Engineering is an asset.

  • Past experience in a process improvement position is required.

  • Experience working in a 3PL, supply chain logistics or Transportations environment is preferred.

  • Great knowledge of Transportation Management Software (Truckmate, Omnitracs).

  • Strong knowledge of MS Office or equivalent with the willingness to constantly update knowledge

  • Strong knowledge of problem solving methodologies, continuous improvement methods, project management, and analytical tools.

  • Strong leadership skills; ability to facilitate cross functional teams; ability to manage multiple projects; extensive communication (written/verbal) skills; self-starter; quantitative aptitude and analytical skills.

    Demonstrated experience teaching/mentoring others.

  • Technical writing abilities.

  • Process assessment, Identifying Root Cause, Process improvement and Implementation, Planning, Performance Management, Project Management, Supervision, Coaching and Training, Self-development.

  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Publisher, Microsoft Project, Microsoft Access, Microsoft Visio, Visual Basic, problem solving, analysis of data, project management, Warehouse Management Systems and, building custom macros in Excel and Access.
