At Community Living Owen Sound and District, we are looking for outgoing, energetic, and compassionate people to join our team to support people with intellectual disabilities to live their best lives. You will be joining a dedicated team of direct support professionals who are committed to creating a community of inclusion where all people are welcomed and accepted.

As a Support Worker with Community Living Owen Sound and District, you will support people with developmental disabilities to live their best lives through meaningful participation in the community. The Support Worker assists individuals to explore opportunities and engage in activities that reflect their interests, goals, and personal choices, including health and wellness, employment preparation, recreation, leisure, special interests, and respite supports.

This role focuses on promoting independence, informed choice, and community inclusion by encouraging individuals to build skills, develop relationships, and participate as actively as they choose within their communities. Support Workers work collaboratively with families, caregivers, community partners, and fellow team members to ensure a respectful, person-centered approach that upholds the safety, rights, and dignity of those supported.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan, implement, and evaluate daily and weekly programming in alignment with individuals’ personal goals and interests.
  • Encourage and support active participation in community activities and events.
  • Identify and foster partnerships with community organizations, businesses, and services to expand inclusive opportunities.
  • Support individuals in areas such as life skills development, social connection, health and wellness, volunteerism, and employment readiness.
  • Monitor and support individuals in a manner that promotes independence, dignity, and personal growth.
  • Provide respectful personal support when required, in accordance with individual needs and plans.
  • Serve as a liaison between individuals, families, caregivers, and other team members.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including daily logs, support plans, communication notes, and incident reports.
  • Promote a safe and inclusive environment by following all organizational health and safety practices.
  • Participate in team meetings, planning sessions, and training opportunities.
  • Safeguard the rights, assets, and personal property of supported individuals.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Developmental Services Worker (DSW) diploma or equivalent in a related human services field.
  • Experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of person-centered planning, inclusion, and community development.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Proficient with basic computer applications and electronic documentation systems.
  • Valid Ontario Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Current First Aid/CPR and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) certifications (or willingness to obtain).
  • Clear Vulnerable Sector Check required prior to employment.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Community-based programming requiring travel within the region.
  • Active, on-your-feet role that may include lifting or assisting individuals with mobility.
  • Flexible scheduling including days, evenings, and weekends based on programming needs.
  • Indoor and outdoor work in all seasons.
  • May include support for individuals with complex needs, including behavioural or medical support.
