About the role
As a member of the healthcare team, the HCA supports patient care through equipment and supply management, maintenance of a clean, safe environment and the portering of charts, equipment, specimens, etc. The HCA provides unit support to patients, families and those providing service and/or care.
- Personal Support Worker or Healthcare Aide Certificate or nursing student with successful completion of all level 2 courses at McMaster University or nursing student with successful completion of all level 2 courses in McMaster University and Mohawk College collaborative program or nursing student with successful completion of all level 1 courses in the Mohawk College Diploma program
- Completed CSAO Techniques course
- Grade 10 or equivalent
- Experience maintaining and stocking materials and supplies
- Demonstrated ability to work closely with staff including the ability to accept assignments, delegation, requests and follow instructions
- Able to communicate effectively with patients, families and other members of the healthcare team, both verbally and written
- Able to read and write English proficiently
- Computer familiarity or willingness to learn computer skills as required
- Able to use domestic and commercial cleaning equipment and to work with cleaning agents and germicides
- Able to set and adjust priorities and organize work in response to unit needs
- Able to demonstrate attributes that contribute to a respectful caring environment
- In good physical condition. Able to stand for long periods, repetitive reaching, repetitive bending, pushing and lifting using proper body mechanics
