Compensation Range

$32.70 - $46.99 CAD Hourly

The midpoint of the range is approximately halfway between the minimum and the maximum and represents an employee that possesses full job knowledge, qualifications and experience for the position. In the normal course, employees will be hired, transferred or promoted between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range for a job.

Job Summary
The University of British Columbia, Faculty of Medicine (FoM), Academy of Translational Medicine (ATM) strives to meet the education and training learning needs of the translational medicine ecosystem in BC, including UBC faculty members, trainees and students, BC’s clinicians and bio-innovation industry and life science sector. The Education Program Assistant is a key member of the ATM education team. The incumbent will contribute their regulatory affairs knowledge, educational program expertise and coordination skills to support the instructors and students in the new ATM regulatory affairs micro-credential program. The incumbent develops materials for course lectures, workshop and assignments, and curates online materials in various formats.

The Academy of Translational Medicine (ATM) at the University of British Columbia (UBC) is being established by the Faculty of Medicine (FoM). The ATM is a nucleus for translational medical research, education and training, and innovation. The ATM is a strategic imperative for the FoM and has a mandate to collaborate with other units in the FoM, UBC and beyond to accelerate the T0-T4 translational medicine continuum. The ATM will drive impactful medical research to create new knowledge to improve health outcomes and benefit society. The ATM will also be a nucleus for the development of new academic and training programs, creating a cutting-edge ecosystem in which top educators and researchers train the next generation of health innovators.

Work Performed

  • Assists and leads the development of course lectures in the fields of health economics, life-cycle assessment, real-world evidence, precision medicine, causal inference, discrete choice experiments

  • Oversees online learning and assignment materials

  • Develops materials for course workshops

  • Assists in the development of program assessment and evaluation tools

  • Oversees and coordinates the delivery of educational program support services

  • Responds to inquiries and requests from program participants and provides guidance and direction to help access program information

  • Assists lecturers and instructors in answering student questions

  • Maintains updated course inventory and flags relevant information, individuals, and details to the ATM leadership

  • Works with UBC Extended Learning to develop and post learning materials for the course

  • Identifies feedback mechanism and collects data and feedback from course participants, lecturers and other relevant parties

  • Develops and conducts surveys; performs data analysis (qualitative and quantitative)

  • Participates in ATM meetings as needed

  • Provide general day-to-day support related to the regulatory education programming, as required, to the ATM manager and co-directors

  • Perform other tasks in keeping with the level, as required.

Consequence of Error/Judgement
The incumbent will be required to show judgment and decision making, which has the potential to impact ATM’s and the Faculty of Medicine’s reputation, product viability, project funding, and the opportunity for future project development.

Exercising poor judgment and/or inappropriate lack of consultation has the potential to adversely affect the viability and validity of research projects, educational programs, projects, grant-based funding or other means necessary to sustain itself.

Supervision Received

The Education Program Assistant reports to the ATM Director. Works with a high level of independence. Meets weekly with the ATM team and/or ATM senior staff to review performance and portfolio. At a project level, receives direction from project leads, some of whom may work remotely. The incumbent works in close alliance with the ATM education program coordinator and with UBC Extended Learning, FoM office personnel, external project partners, and other project coordinators and managers.

Supervision Given
Works with a high level of coordination with the ATM education coordinator and with other ATM administrative staff.

Minimum Qualifications
University degree in a relevant discipline. Minimum of two years of related experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

University degree in adult education, health economics, health policy or management, or another area that directly relates to the adult education in health care in Canada preferred. Experience in regulatory science, economics, real-world evidence, causal inference, health sciences, public health, and discrete choice experiments preferred. Experience in educational implementation an asset. Training in project management an asset. Related experience in adult education or continuing education programs preferred. Working knowledge of both traditional and online methods of course delivery preferred. Experience working with learning management systems (LMS), particularly Moodle, an asset. Database experience an asset; data analysis software (Stata, R, or equivalent) preferred. Experience with the requirements and procedures of educational research including experience with a variety of research traditions and methodologies preferred. Experience in working with the academic and scientific community an asset. Effective oral and written communication, interpersonal, project management, and organizational skills. Effective supervisory, organizational, and time management skills. Ability to exercise tact and discretion. High level of proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint as well as e-mail and Internet required. Ability to prioritize work, multi-task, and to meet deadlines.
