Role Overview:

As a Risk and Compliance Intern, you will support the Risk Management and Compliance teams in maintaining effective governance, risk, and control frameworks across the organization. This role offers hands‑on exposure to how a financial institution identifies, measures, monitors, and reports on risk while complying with regulatory and internal policy requirements.

You’ll work alongside experienced professionals and gain practical insight into enterprise risk management, regulatory compliance, issue management, and control oversight, making this an excellent opportunity for students interested in financial services, public policy, or risk-based decision-making.

  • Supporting the maintenance of risk and compliance frameworks, policies, procedures, and related documentation.

  • Drafting, updating, and maintaining process documentation, including SOPs, controls, and supporting artifacts.

  • Supporting document management to ensure materials are accurate, current, and properly stored.

  • Helping track issues, findings, and action plans arising from risk assessments, monitoring, reviews, or audits.

  • Preparing materials for internal reporting, governance committees, senior management, and compliance reviews.

  • Conducting research on regulatory requirements, industry standards, and emerging risk topics.

  • Participating in testing, monitoring, or tracking of key risk and compliance controls.

  • Identifying documentation gaps and opportunities for process or control improvement.

  • Collaborating with cross functional teams to gather information and understand business processes and risk impacts.

  • Supporting ad hoc projects and initiatives aligned with team priorities and business needs.

About the qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program or a recent graduate from a program in:

    • Commerce, Finance, Accounting, or Economics.
    • Risk Management, Operations, Information Systems, or a related field.
    • Demonstrated ability to work independently, take ownership of tasks, and follow them through to completion.
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills.

  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite; proficiency in Power BI and Atlassian are considered an asset.

  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and sound judgement.

  • Strong work ethic with a positive, professional attitude, and a high degree of reliability.

  • Willingness to learn new concepts, develop technical and professional skills, and adapt to a regulated and evolving environment.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally, both in writing and verbally.
