The ideal candidate will reside in Fort McMurray, AB.
As a pivotal leader in our maintenance organization, the General Foreperson ensures daily field operations run with precision, safety, and purpose. This role is the driving force that transforms well‑developed weekly maintenance plans into consistent, high‑quality execution—keeping our fleet reliable and our teams performing at their best.
The General Foreperson is accountable for the safe, predictable, and efficient execution of the weekly mobile maintenance plan across all trades and shifts. This position converts weekly strategies into disciplined daily results, safeguarding planned work from reactive disruptions and ensuring operational continuity. Working collaboratively within both customer requirements and Finning OEM standards, the General Foreperson optimizes labor utilization, equipment availability, and overall maintenance cost performance. While not responsible for long‑range planning, this role owns the quality, safety, and reliability of all field execution activities.
Job Description: Major Job Functions:
- Safety & Risk Control – 25%
- Owns SIMOPS coordination across all mobile maintenance activities.
- Ensures consistent application of LOTO, ground disturbance, and working‑at‑heights controls.
- Stops unsafe work across all trades and shifts.
- Leads serious incident reviews and implements learnings.
- Planned Adherence & Execution – 30%
- Ensures fleet availability, MTBS, FBAS, and MTTR targets are achieved.
- Makes real‑time decisions on deferrals, breakdown response, and overtime.
- Implements Syncrude/Finning OEM preventive maintenance policies.
- Establishes repair priorities to optimize fleet utilization.
- Ensures proper workshop equipment care, technical support, and manpower utilization.
- Cross‑Trade & Shift Integration – 20%
- Coordinates mechanical, electrical, welding, and other trades to eliminate delays.
- Ensures accurate, detailed, timely shift handovers.
- Fleet Availability & Cost Control – 15%
- Owns execution‑side equipment availability.
- Balances production pressure with reliability and deferred‑maintenance risk.
- Identifies execution‑related chronic losses.
- Reduces downtime, rework, and unnecessary expenditures.
- Leadership, Workforce Development & Interfaces – 10%
- Coaches supervisors and trades; builds frontline leadership capability.
- Maintains high field presence to verify job quality and remove barriers.
- Works with Customer Execution, Operations, Planning, Reliability, and Supply Chain.
- Supports adoption of new technologies and reliability processes.
Accountability:- Safe execution of all maintenance tasks by all trades and shifts.

Technical diploma, trade certification, or equivalent industry experience.

10–15+ years of mobile maintenance experience, including extensive field exposure to ultra‑class and heavy mining equipment such as 797 haul trucks, D11 dozers, graders, and similar assets.

Strong, practical leadership in field‑based maintenance execution across multiple trades.
-
Proven ability to make balanced, real‑time decisions under pressure while maintaining safety and plan integrity.

Deep understanding of mobile maintenance execution, short‑interval scheduling, and reliability‑centered work practices.

Skilled in coordinating cross‑functional teams and managing complex, high‑priority maintenance tasks.

High competency in CMMS usage, job package execution, and ensuring accurate maintenance coding.

Proficient with OEM maintenance standards and methodologies, particularly CAT and Finning.

Strong knowledge of oil sands operating environments; oil sands experience strongly preferred.

Comprehensive understanding of regulatory requirements, including OHS legislation, LOTO procedures, and heavy equipment compliance standards.

Strong grasp of maintenance KPIs, cost drivers, and the operational levers that influence equipment availability and performance.

Excellent communication skills with disciplined and thorough shift‑handover practices.
