Manager, Finance & Budgets – Burnaby School District
Reporting to the Assistant Secretary Treasurer, the Manager, Finance and Budgets functions as part of the Finance Team and is responsible for all aspects of the District’s Finance and Budget needs. The Manager provides guidance and direction to staff and leads all business planning activities including new initiatives or projects.
The Manager, Finance and Budgets is also responsible for providing budget information, financial analysis, forecasts and financial reporting as required by senior management, government agencies or other key stakeholders. The role also functions as a key liaison and partner between the District and the school administration staff on all budgeting and Finance matters.

The Burnaby School District is the fourth largest in BC. The District operates 41 elementary and 8 secondary schools, including a range of district and provincial resource programs. The District supports and provides learning to 25,000 Kindergarten to Grade 12 (K-12) students and to more than 6,000 adult learners through our established Burnaby Community & Continuing Education program. Major Responsibilities
• Responsible for the development and review of the District’s annual operating and special purpose grants budgets in consultation with key stakeholders and business partners.
• Provides support to the Assistant Secretary Treasurer with the preparation and review of various internal and external financial reports required by Senior Management, the Board and the Ministry.
• Conducts monthly reviews of budgets and expenditures of all departments and schools to ensure that the individual budgets are compliant with the overall district budget and are reported in a manner consistent with the internal and external requirements.
• Assists with the review of various Government Reporting Entity (GRE) and other Ministry reporting.
• Works with Human Resources to ensure adequate staffing levels are maintained and consistent with the District’s budget. • Provide support to the Financial Services team on the year end audit.
• Lead, coach and mentor staff.
• Perform other duties as assigned including assisting in maintaining the finance portal and ongoing development and improvement of new and existing finance processes and procedures
Education, Experience and Skills
• Graduation from a Post-Secondary business program and/or recognized accounting program
• Chartered Professional Accountant designation (CPA) with demonstrated knowledge with Public Sector Accounting Standards
• 7-10 years of progressive experience in accounting or finance with at least 3 years of supervisory experience, preferably within a large public sector organization
• Previous experience managing large and complex budgets.
• Knowledge of Fund Accounting an asset
• Highly organized in gathering and summarizing information from multiple sources
• Knowledge and experience of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) financial systems and proficient in using MS office 365 suite of programs
• Skilled at working with large sets of data using Excel and other reporting tools to perform data analysis
• Exceptional interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to collaborate and communicate effectively at all levels
• Self motivated requiring minimal supervision
Compensation
Comprehensive total compensation package includes a base salary in the range of $102,001 - $127,501 depending on experience, a generous benefits package and participation in a pension plan.
