Position: Geographic Information System (GIS) Coop Student
Salary: Grade 4, Non Union ($23.78 2025 rate)
Reports to: Division Leader – Community Planning
Purpose of Position:
Working in the Community Planning Division, the Geographic Information System (GIS) Coop Student role will be responsible for maintaining, editing and creating digital data through special projects for the Municipality of Lakeshore. This position will provide geographic information to various departments within the Municipality and will assist in regular workflows and projects.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Must be currently enrolled in a College or University in the field of Geography, Geomatics, Civil Engineering Technologist, Computer Science or related field of study;
- ESRI ArcGIS suite of products or certificate in GIS, is preferred.
Knowledge & Skills:
- Working knowledge and experience in various software applications including Microsoft Applications such as ESRI ArcGIS suite of products, Office 365, Windows Operating Systems and Servers and SQL Server;
- Attention to detail required in creation of maps and in editing of spatial features within the database;
- Professionalism and confidentiality required at all times;
- Working knowledge of networking protocols and standards;
- Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment;
- Proven working experience in a team-oriented, collaborative environment with strong customer service orientation.
Major Responsibilities:
- Creation, maintenance, editing, and acquisition of municipal data for all Departments within the Municipality
- Maintain and update of Municipal GIS infrastructure (ex. sanitary sewer, storm sewer, water mains) databases and applications.
- Creation of standard and special-purpose maps, plans, sketches and reports of various geographic data as requested by all Departments within the Municipality
- Any other duties as assigned.
Decision Making and Judgement:
- Work is performed under the general direction of the Division Leader – Community Planning and other department heads.
- Works within established guidelines, policies, procedures, directives, bylaws and legislation.
Physical Skill and Effort
- prolonged sitting, prolonged standing, bending, keyboarding, stooping, climbing, lifting 20 lbs (ex. Roll of plotter paper), driving
**Interaction Level:**Internal:
- Daily contact with office staff and management
- With co-workers and other staff members to ensure provisions of timely information and services.
External:
- Contact with regional GIS professionals
Working Conditions:

- Works within an office environment
Control over Work Schedule
- 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (35 hours per week).
