About the role
Overlanders Manufacturing is seeking a Safety Coordinator to join our team. The Safety Coordinator plays a key role in supporting a safe and compliant work environment. The Safety Coordinator works closely with managers, supervisors, JHSC members, and employees to promote a strong safety culture across all operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in developing, implementing, and maintaining company safety policies, procedures, and training programs.
- Ensure compliance with provincial/federal safety regulations (WorkSafeBC, CSA standards, etc.).
- Maintain safety documentation, training records, and incident reports.
- Track, analyze, and report safety metrics and trends to leadership; recommend improvements.
- Conduct regular safety inspections of production floors, equipment, and work areas.
- Identify hazards and recommend corrective actions.
- Follow up to ensure completion of corrective measures.
- Ensure lockout/tagout guidance, hazardous material handling practices, and safe work procedures are communicated and followed.
- Support supervisors and JHSC members in reporting and investigating incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions.
- Ensure documentation is complete and corrective actions are implemented.
- Monitor trends and recommend improvements.
- Help deliver safety orientations for new employees, contractors, and visitors.
- Assist with ongoing safety training such as WHMIS, PPE use, lockout/tagout, and emergency preparedness.
- Provide safety orientation for new hires.
- Maintain training logs and certificates.
- Chair and support Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC/JOHS) meetings, manage meeting structures, track action items, and ensure effective follow up.
- Prepare meeting materials, track action items, and assist with monthly inspections.
- Lead or facilitate toolbox talks/safety huddles as required.
- Assist with emergency response plans, drills, and evacuation procedures.
- Ensure first aid supplies, spill kits, fire extinguishers, and emergency equipment are inspected and maintained.
- Confirm required third‑party inspections for equipment (e.g., cranes, forklifts, scissor lifts) are completed and documented.
- Promote safety awareness across all departments.
- Post safety notices, prepare safety newsletters, and assist with toolbox talks.
- Support company-wide safety initiatives, audits, and continuous improvement projects.
Qualifications:
- 2+ years of experience in a health & safety role in manufacturing/industrial or multi site environments.
- Working knowledge of WorkSafeBC regulations, WCA and occupational H&S best practices.
- Experience facilitating JHSC/JOHS and safety meetings.
- Experience with COR/OSSE programs, audits, and corrective action closure is an asset.
- Hands on training capability; ability to coordinate/deliver OHS training
- Familiar with claims administration and RTW coordination.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel/Word/PowerPoint);
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license and willingness to travel between sites if required.
