Job Description:

POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY:
The role supports residents’ and/ or program participants’ healthcare needs.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:
The incumbent may perform all, some, or similar range of duties.
Facilities Professionals Assistance (some roles):

  • Answer call signals from clients in the facility and escalate requests to Registered Nurse if required.
  • Provide clients with prescribed medications based on the doctor’s notice.
  • Contribute to restoring, maintaining, and improving optimal physical functionality, quality of life and independence for clients.
  • Assist Registered Nurse, Occupational Therapist, and Psychotherapist in their day-to-day duties and routine operations.
  • Maintain safety standards and confidentiality at all times.
  • Administer, in emergency situations, first aid to injured or ill individuals within the scope of competencies.

Community Street Nurse Assistance (some roles):

  • Some positions may support Community Street Nurse and provide medical assistance to homeless population.
  • Administer first aid to injured or ill individuals within the scope of competencies.
  • Maintain safety standards and confidentiality at all times.

Performs other work-related duties as assigned.

CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT:
Internal: MU(s) leaders and staff, volunteers.
External: provincial Health Care Services, clients, families/friends of clients, community.

MANAGERIAL/TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

FINANCIAL AND MATERIAL MANAGEMENT:

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Work will be performed in the facility space or supporting Community Street Nurse/Outreach Team and will be required to spend some time outdoors or typical community center environment where the general public including the marginalized and homeless are served.
  • Schedule may vary according to requirements of responsibilities – some weekend and evening work may be required.
  • May require some amount of standing, lifting, bending, carrying of supplies, and frequent walking up and down stairs.
  • Requires attention to adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
  • The incumbent is required to lift up or move up to 20 pounds with no assistance from other.
  • May be exposed to disagreeable people, verbal abuse, people with behavioural or mental issues and may be exposed to hazardous cleaning chemicals.
  • Regular interactions and contact with various types of people suffering from various types of conditions and/or illnesses from different walks of life including the marginalized and homeless.
  • Exposed to bodily fluids, diseases, wounds, and/or infections on a daily basis.
  • May be exposed to various types of unpleasant smells, potential verbal abuse, and clients may sometimes lack appropriate personal hygiene.
  • May, on occasion, be expected to venture out into the community and visit clients in neighboring agencies or accompany patients to doctors.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Alternative combination of education and Experience may be considered.

Education, Qualifications and Certifications:

  • Completion of a university program in Nursing or related field consisting of four academic years.
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification
  • NVCI Certification

Experience and Knowledge:

  • Up to one year of prior related experience in a social services setting is required.

Skills and Capabilities:

  • Use a client-centered approach by consistently demonstrating compassion, respect, and empathy in all interactions.
  • High standards of integrity, judgment, and confidentiality.
  • Attention to details.
  • Strong communication skills as well as strong writing and oral skills in English.
  • Represent the organization in a professional and engaging manner and assist personnel whom the position supports in developing those skills as required.

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is $23.28 to $29.10 with a maximum of $34.92.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
