We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Buyer to join our procurement team, The Junior Buyer will be responsible for supporting the procurement process, ensuring timely and cost-effective acquisition of materials and components required by the company. This role is an excellent opportunity for career growth and development within the procurement field.

KEY REPONSIBILITIES

Purchasing Functions:

  • Assist in the procurement of materials and components for turnkey contract build requirements as outlined by Operations and Business Development departments

  • Validate component costing as researched by Quotations staff and determine best supply options or source alternatives if necessary (includes comparison of vendor pricing, lead times, stock and minimum order quantities)

  • Work directly with customers to confirm substitutions or part replacements

  • Anticipate long lead time items or potential shortages and propose solutions

  • Negotiate price, delivery, and other special terms with suppliers

  • Place purchase orders with approved suppliers and follow upon delivery schedules.

  • Report status of purchasing cycle to Operations Department, noting special circumstances, instructions and any expected surplus components at completion of the build

  • Actively pursue opportunities to reduce total cost and inventory investment

Supplier Development:

  • Maintain relationships with existing suppliers and assist in identifying new suppliers

  • Work with suppliers to continuously improve quality, cost and delivery times

Materials Planning and Management

  • Coordinate with the materials planner to ensure timely availability of materials

  • Communicate with inventory team and suppliers to ensure receipt of components on-time

Document and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date procurement records, including purchase orders, invoices and delivery notes.

Qualifications:

  • 1-2 years of experience in a procurement or purchasing role, preferably in the electronics or manufacturing industry

  • Knowledge and experience of using MRP systems

  • Basic understanding of supply chain management and procurement processes

  • Directly related experience with local electronic component distributors, related industry suppliers, electronic component nomenclature, and manufacturer's part numbers

  • Strong negotiating skills

  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and verbal/written communication skills

  • Strong organizational and time management abilities

  • Demonstrated tenacious follow-up ability, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to work independently while also supporting a team environment

  • Strong work ethic, self-directed, determined, customer/team-oriented, energetic, enthusiastic

  • Ability to multi-task, judge priorities, and handle a variety of duties/assignments at once (sometimes under pressure) with a positive attitude

  • Computer proficiency, particularly with Microsoft Office suite of tools (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.)

  • Relevant post-secondary education with strong math skills

  • Experience within an ISO9001:2015 environment is an asset

Job Type: This is an in-person full-time position (40 hours per week) from Monday to Friday at our warehouse in Burnaby, BC

Salary: $40,000 to $45,760 based on experience ($20.00-$22.00 per hour).
