Development Miner – Cablebolter

Alamos Gold’s Young-Davidson is a low-cost, long-life operation and one of Canada’s largest underground gold mines. It is located near the town of Matachewan centrally located between Timmins, Kirkland Lake, North Bay and Sudbury, Ontario. The 2020 completion of a highly automated, lower mine expansion has resulted in Young-Davidson increasing production and generating strong free cash flow. With a large Mineral Reserve base, it will serve as Alamos’ foundation for growth for many years to come. Reporting to the Supervisor, Mine Operations, the successful candidate must be proficient in the safe and efficient installation of secondary ground support such as cablebolts or superswellex bolts.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Underground site prep.

    • Installing services when required (air/water pipe, electrical cable, ventilation)
    • Blowing/Cleaning bench and holes if floor cables are to be installed
    • Moving in tools and gear required for cablebolting using tractor, scooptram and manually (cable pallets, grout pump, grout pallets, grout tubes and breather tubes, superswellex, superswellex pump etc..)
    • Setting up grout pump when grouting
  • Scaling and doing pre-operation inspection of equipment and site

  • Filling 5 point card and maintain accurate operating records, including daily cablebolting reports and inventory logs.

  • Provide 2hr call in when drilling context requires operator to work alone

  • Install resin injected cables, as well as conduct routine inspection and maintenance on the associated resin pumps.

  • Cable and/or superswellex installation (being able to read prints and follow installation and grouting directives)

  • Mix grout according to SOP and best practices, confirming grout quality before pumping.

  • Grouting of cables, confirming grouting quality throughout the process.

  • Tensioning cables and cutting tails, cleaning up workplace as job progresses.

  • Perform daily preventive maintenance and regular repairs on grout pump.

  • Contribute to and establish effective workplace relationships

    • Provide cablebolting reports to supervisor and cross-shift
    • Provide support to blasting crews when required
    • Provide support to service crew when required
  • All other tasks as directed by supervisor

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications and Experience:

Schedule: 10 hour shifts, 7 days on/7 days off rotating schedule
