The purpose of this position is to maintain and iteratively improve the Government server computing environment. This environment is the basis of all client facing digital services.
Duties will include but are not limited to:
- Develop, maintain, debug, test and document infrastructure components and configurations;
- Install, upgrade, maintain the operation of GPEI computing networks, utilizing multiple technologies (Wired LAN, Wireless LAN, Point-to-Point Wireless links, Fiber-optic and transition equipment, etc);
- Troubleshoot IT network infrastructure components;
- Work closely with senior network technicians and management to ensure environment consistency and reliability;
- Work closely with senior technicians, security services and management to ensure security, confidentiality, and availability of Government IT infrastructure;
- Research industry trends and standards, provide recommendations for evaluation;
- Advise on hardware, software, and communications components and performance improvements Assist in the evaluation of network equipment, software, supplies and services;
- Apply configuration changes to Government infrastructure as required by assigned work tasks.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Applicants must have a university degree or college diploma with major course work in Network Infrastructure;
- Considerable related enterprise-level experience in the IT industry and considerable experience in supporting complex network infrastructure;
- Demonstrated equivalencies may be considered.
- Industry-recognized certification in networking, wireless administration, or network security (network+, IT security, etc);
- Strong communication skills1 both written and oral;
- Effective interpersonal skills, judgement, dependability, and reliability;
- Professionalism - desire to keep abreast of trends and developments;
- Must have use of a reliable vehicle on a daily basis with appropriate insurance coverage;
- A Fundamental and comprehensive understanding of network and file system infrastructure and security.
Other Qualifications:
- Training or certification for the following technology areas/vendors will be considered an asset:
- Network cabling standards
- Fibre optic cabling and associated technologies;
- Security Appliance technology;
- Intrusion detection/prevention;
- Voice Over IP technologies;
- Video Conferencing technologies;
- Wireless LAN and Point-to-Point Technologies;
- Infrastructure monitoring and performance technologies.
- Experience configuring and maintaining security appliances (for enterprise networks)
