Position Summary:
- Provide support for patients followed in the Psychosis Clinic
- Provide depot injections and education to patients followed in the Depot Clinic
- Complete mental health assessments
- Complete risk assessments
- Provide education and support for families/significant others
- Consult with inter-professional teams, community agencies and pharmacies to maintain coordination in the patient’s treatment process
- Conduct psychoeducational groups and individual sessions for patients to learn more about their symptoms, medications and side-effects
- Support intake and discharge processes for patients referred to the Depot Clinic
- Provide support to patients followed in the Clozapine Clinic as required including blood draws and collection
Key Qualifications:
- Registered Nurse with current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario and in good standing
- Graduate of a recognized College or School of Nursing, with Baccalaureate degree preferred
- CNA certification in psychiatric/mental health nursing preferred
- Minimum 3 years Mental Health experience
- Expertise and experience in giving depot injections
- Knowledge of relevant medications and side effects
- Knowledge and experience related to concurrent disorders preferred
- Solid mental health experience re: adult patients with complex psychiatric disorders
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
- Proven ability to interact with patients and their families in an empathetic manner
- Ability to support a model of recovery is essential
- Must possess excellent organizational, time management and critical thinking skills
- Sound working knowledge of legislation related to mental health care and treatment
- Ability to work independently as well as part of an inter-professional team
- Excellent assessment and documentation skills
- Positive work and attendance record
