We are looking for a Health & Safety Coordinator to join our team in Burnaby, BC

What You’ll Do

As a Health & Safety Coordinator, you will:

  • Assess hazards, risks and recommend mitigation measures based on hierarchy of controls by observing tasks and inspecting worksites.
  • Ensure all work activities are carried out with due regard to personal safety, the safety of others, and in line with company policies and procedures.
  • Engage in work process inspections and proactive auditing of facilities and assets.
  • Facilitate education, training and awareness of WCMRC’s health and safety program including on boarding of new employees and contractors.
  • Support the CORE-4 and Life Saving Rules Principles as set forth in the Company Health and Safety Policy, in leading by example.
  • Assist in maintaining an up-to-date incident and observation reporting system, coordinate investigations and close-out of accidents, incidents, near misses and observations as they arise.
  • Produce reports as and when required.
  • Support operational units outside of your assigned ZOR inclusive of preparing and delivering material for specific presentations and safety meetings.
  • Provide respirator fit testing for personnel and support in the field in the use of air monitoring equipment.
  • Participate in applicable corporate and industry committees focused on health and safety topics.
  • Provide direct health and safety guidance to WCMRC operating business units.
  • Monitor PPE for site employees, casuals and contractors and advise changes where necessary.
  • Evaluate effectiveness of policy and procedure as it relates to compliance, health and safety and the environment, and assist in updating or creating policy and procedure as directed.
  • As required, act in the role of Safety Watch, to support spill response activations.

What You Bring

  • A diploma or degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ working experience in a safety practitioner role and demonstrated ability to interpret regulations and legislation.
  • Strong computer skills with ability to effectively utilize MS 365 applications and other operational software applications, including the use of mobile devices.
  • Must be physically fit for work at sea in calm and rough waters, and willing and able to work outdoors under inclement weather.
  • Capable of lifting and carrying up to 50lbs on a regular basis.
  • Business travel will be required and a valid Driver’s License in good standing a must.
  • Marine industry experience working on vessels is an asset.

Preferred

  • Be an influential communicator and superior presenter, able to speak to large groups confidently.
  • Able to respond to spill response activations, incidents and operational requests outside of normal work hours.
