About Us

Western's Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry is a leading Canadian centre of outstanding education and research shaping health care for the next generation and is the largest and most complex faculty on campus. The Department of Biochemistry is a basic science department within the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry and is a vibrant community of faculty, research personnel, students and administrative staff dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in research and teaching. The Department has a significant academic and research profile in the areas of: genome dynamics; epigenetics and gene expression; human genetics and clinical biochemistry; signal transduction and intracellular communication; macromolecular structure and dynamics; proteomics and bioinformatics.

Responsibilities

The Summer Student 3 will provide specialized support in the areas of administrative services, research services, infrastructure services, or student services. The incumbent will have responsibility for carrying out activities which require higher level specialization of skills. The incumbent will be responsible for providing support to faculty or staff, and for effectively carrying out a variety of tasks in accordance with policies, procedures, and instructions received from their supervisor. The incumbent will take guidance from their supervisor, and work productively and courteously with their work team and other members of the Western community.

Qualifications

Education:

  • 2 years of post-secondary education, and be a student returning to studies in the fall

Experience:

  • Previous directly related experience

  • Written and verbal communication skills to express ideas clearly, and adapt communication style to suit the situation and audience
  • Ability to maintain a positive, outgoing attitude with genuine customer service orientation
  • Reliable and dependable with the ability to consistently work assigned schedule
  • Ability to apply critical thinking to evaluate information and make appropriate decisions
  • Ability to apply creativity, innovation and resourcefulness to daily work
  • Ability to follow detailed and/or complex processes and practices with high attention to detail
  • Demonstrates integrity and works in accordance with Western¿s policies and procedures
  • Ability to multi-task and maintain an organized and effective personal work environment
  • Computer skills with Microsoft Office, with the ability to learn and use new software programs as required
  • Personable and courteous in working relationships with colleagues, students and the public
  • Ability to work independently and effectively as a member of the team to achieve department goals
  • Ability to work in a manner that is compliant with confidentiality requirements as applicable
