D.M. Wills Associates Limited is looking for a Surveyor to join our growing team. This role involves performing field surveys, processing survey data, and preparing base plans and as-built records to support municipal and land development projects. Working alongside engineers, project managers, and external partners, you will play an important role in ensuring accurate site data that supports the design and construction process.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform survey works for topography determination, existing facilities, layout, and roadways using level, GPS and/or Total Station for field surveys and as-builts.
- Import survey data to AutoCAD Civil 3D and create base plans for design.
- Create and/or revise AutoCAD Civil 3D municipal drawings from base plans and/or from as-built information.
- Measure dimensions and angles between points on, above, and below the Earth’s surface using conventional survey methods.
- Travel to locations and select known reference points to determine the exact location of important features.
- Record detailed results of surveying and verify the accuracy of data.
- Utilize CAD to assist in the creation of geometric designs.
- Prepare survey sketches, as-built records, and post survey documentation.
- Compute both manual and computer quantity calculations for both tenders and active projects.
- Complete overall site reviews and as-built surveys, prepare base files and redline markups for use in drafting final project as-built records.
- Organize and schedule meetings with contractors, sub-contractors, owners, developers, and other agencies.
- Present survey findings and results to staff, clients, government agencies, townships, municipalities, and others.
- Maintain contact with project managers, developers, contractors, owners, approval agencies and all parties involved with the assigned project.
- Maintain contact with Inspector(s)/Contract Administrators to complete quantity verification surveys for key project milestones.
- Responsible to maintain and keep safe from harm department surveying equipment.
- Provide information to the Project Manager for invoicing and/or project tracking purposes of field collected quantity verifications.
- Provide cost and time estimates for new survey work for budgetary purposes.
- Draft and submit proposals using project templates for surveying projects.
- Report to the Department Manager / Project Manager immediately any deviation from the contract documents and record issues.
- Support the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Train other staff in the requirements for surveying.
- Ensure that timelines are met for all key deliverables.
- Ensure that all data related to the scope of work above is accurately entered, filed, and managed within the company’s computer system.
- Follow direction to complete other tasks and projects as required.
- Maintain project budget and notify Project Manger of any scope or costing changes.
Significant Qualifications / Experience:
- 2-year diploma in Survey Engineering Technician, Civil Engineering Technician or equivalent.
- Minimum five years of experience providing the essential duties and responsibilities as noted.
- Valid G Class driver’s licence and access to a reliable vehicle required.
- Proficient knowledge in the use of various survey equipment/techniques including Total Station, GPS and laser level.
- Strong knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D, Bluebeam Revu, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Knowledge of the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act and other relevant legislation/regulations.
- Strong communication, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong work ethic with the ability to efficiently manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and consistently meet deadlines.
