Position Summary:

The Network Engineer is the College’s Subject Matter Expert (SME) in enterprise networking, responsible for the strategic advisory, operations, and oversight of all network infrastructure and related network security systems across campuses, data centers, and cloud environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Works with other technology engineering teams to configure and support complex network solutions.
  • Develops detailed documentation and schematics.
  • Makes recommendations for network design, architecture, and procurement to management.
  • Develops estimates for time, scope, and project timelines.
  • Provides level-3 support (highest level) for incident and request management by the support center and on-site support teams.
  • Guides and advises less experienced staff and contractors on technical matters and provides on-the-job training as needed.
  • Works with multiple vendors to maintain systems and coordinate maintenance work 24x7x365.
  • Leads network-related projects, including technology upgrades, expansions, and new deployments.
  • Works closely with management to develop long-term network architectures, strategies, and roadmaps.
  • Stays current with emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in network, data center, and cloud infrastructure management.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Educational and Experience Requirements:

  • Four-year degree or equivalent from a recognized post-secondary institution in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, IT or other related program is required.
  • Minimum of Cisco CCNP (prefer CCIE) or equivalent certification from HP, Aruba, or Juniper.
  • A cloud or AI certificate related to Networking such AWS Certified Advanced Networking or Azure Network Engineer Associate.
  • Palo Alto Networks Certified Network Security Engineer (PCNSE), Certificate of Competence in Zero Trust (CCZT), Cloud Security Alliance, F5 Certified Technical Specialist (F5- CTS), and Azure AZ 700 are required.
  • Minimum eight (8) years of hands-on experience with enterprise class network systems working inside a large enterprise IT environment (1000+ employees), including eight (8) years in progressive positions within an IT department, leading to a comprehensive Network Engineer.
  • Extensive experience with cloud networking solutions, including private, public, and hybrid.
  • Hands-on experience with network protocols and security standards.
  • Proven experience with network automation tools and DevOps practices.
  • Specific expertise and experience in converged data, voice, video, and wireless networking.
  • Strong background in designing, implementing, and managing secure and scalable.
  • Proficiency in network telemetry and AI-driven analytics (e.g., Cisco ThousandEyes, Prometheus) for real-time monitoring and predictive maintenance.
  • Expertise in cloud and hybrid connectivity (AWS Direct Connect, Azure ExpressRoute).
  • Proven track record in network automation, DevOps integration, and security standard enforcement.
  • Experience influencing IT standards and technology standards at an organizational level.

Skills and Attributes:

  • Familiarity with identity federation, and secure authentication technologies.
  • Proven ability to support engineering sessions and translate complex requirements into executable plans.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and expert-level knowledge of enterprise networking, cloud networking, and secure infrastructure.
  • Effective communicator capable of engaging technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Understanding of overall business and technical operations, including the interrelationship between voice, video, and data networking, application development, and client support.
  • Ability to lift up to and between 20 kg or 44 lbs (i.e., mounting of network equipment in racks).
  • Able to travel occasionally between campuses.
  • Excellent collaboration, interpersonal, and teamwork skills at a professional level.
  • Demonstrated commitment to uphold the College’s priorities on diversity and equity.
