Position Description
Reporting directly to the President & CEO, this position leads the Toronto Region Board of Trade’s (TRBOT) Communication & Marketing function as a valued member of the Executive Leadership Team. Communications and Marketing are key enablers of the organization’s success — delivering impact to TRBOT’s programs, policy initiatives, and commercial offerings.
The SVP will be responsible for shaping and amplifying TRBOT’s voice, brand, advocacy and influence.
This role leads the organization’s narrative, positioning, and audience engagement strategies — ensuring TRBOT’s thought leadership, advocacy priorities, and impact are clearly communicated to members, stakeholders, media, and the public.
The SVP oversees a high-performing team responsible for communications strategy, media relations, public affairs communications, digital engagement, content marketing, and stakeholder communications. The SVP will drive a unified, integrated approach that elevates TRBOT’s reputation, deepens stakeholder relationships, and supports member growth and retention.
The ideal candidate is a creative communicator who can translate complex business, economic and policy issues into compelling narratives and deliver measurable impact through innovative, multi-channel campaigns.
Role Description:
- Lead the development and execution of TRBOT’s company-wide communications, brand, and marketing strategy to enhance visibility, reputation, and influence.
- Shape and amplify TRBOT’s narrative as a champion for business growth and regional competitiveness, positioning the organization as a leading voice on business and economic policy, trade, innovation, and talent.
- Provide strategic counsel to the CEO, executive team, and board on messaging, positioning, and reputation management.
- Oversee the creation and execution of integrated marketing campaigns to drive awareness, engagement, and participation across TRBOT’s programs, events, membership, and WTC programming—acting as a strategic enabler to amplifies the impact and visibility of these teams’ work.
- Collaborate closely with the Commercial, Policy, Events and World Trade Centre teams to ensure marketing and communications efforts support organizational growth goals.
- Manage TRBOT’s brand to reflect its vision, values, and strategic priorities — ensuring resonance with members, partners, policymakers, and the broader business community.
- Act as media spokesperson on behalf of the CEO when appropriate.
- Manage external agency partners and consultants, ensuring alignment with TRBOT’s strategy and standards of excellence.
Your experience includes:
- 15+ years of progressive leadership experience in strategic communications, public relations, marketing, or brand strategy, within a B2B, policy, or membership-based environment.
- Exceptional writing, messaging, and storytelling skills, with the ability to translate complex policy, economic, or business issues into compelling narratives.
- Experience leading and developing high-performing teams, with demonstrated ability to inspire, coach, and scale talent.
- Strong media relations expertise and established relationships with business, policy, and mainstream media are an asset.
