About The Role:
Under the direction and supervision of the Supportive Living Supervisor, this position is responsible to perform a variety of services and activities for the semi-independent residents specific to the activities of daily living. Duties may range from supporting residents in maintaining their independence to performing personal care activities on an "as needed" basis and assisting in the implementation of recreational activities with residents and or clients of the adult day program. You will be working for both a Supportive Living Attendant, as well as in Adult Day Programs.
What You Will Do:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Resident Centered Care: Respects the residents’ rights and individuality, while encouraging residents to carry out daily activities and hygiene needs. Performs routine procedures which make include bed making, and cleaning. Accountable for assisting residents in making appointments and liaising family of any concerns, in the absence of the supervisor. • Ensures that daily needs are met and assists as required. • Ensures adequate nutrition and assists as required. • Distribute and remind residents to take their oral medications as directed by the Physician. Documents as required by established procedures. • Assist with medical treatments (i.e. dressings, Blood Pressure, creams, ointments, eye drops). • Monitors mental health, ability to cope and mobility. 2. Documentation: Accountable for evaluating residents’ ability to care for self and documents when needs are beyond the residents’ competency. Refers issues to Supervisor and may liaise with homecare/ families of extra care needs in their absence. • Ensures accuracy of admission documentation, care plans and statistical data. • Record illness and incidents. • Maintain a daily 24 hour report. • Record enhanced service activities for each resident and submit monthly for billing purposes. • Maintains current and accurate drug profiles. • Maintains current Emergency pages for paramedic use and hospital transfer. 3. Safety: Contributes to a safe environment for residents, team, and self by understanding and adhering to safety guidelines and practices at all times. 4. Team Work: Cares for and actively participates and assists the Interdisciplinary Team to achieve and maintain a responsible atmosphere of resident centered care. Promotes constructive caring relationships with the corporate, facility and interdisciplinary support teams, as well as residents, families, volunteers, and visitors. What You Bring: QUALIFICATIONS 1. Education • Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent • Health Care Aide Certificate considered an asset • Medication administration (Map) Certificate considered an asset 2. Experience • Experience in Geriatric Care considered an asset 3. Additional Skills • Special interest in working with seniors. • Acquired skills related to enhancing the quality of life for residents. • Able to work effectively in a physically and mentally demanding environment. • Demonstrate ability to understand, speak, read and write effectively in English. • Excellent interpersonal skills and strong verbal and written communication skills.
