Job Description
The County of Grande Prairie is currently seeking a Summer Program Assistant. The Assistant's role is to effectively, efficiently, and professionally provide a well-organized summer program teaching social emotional skills through play for children ages 6-12, in various communities within the County. This position reports to the Child, Youth and Family Program Supervisor and Summer Program Coordinator.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Assisting in developing, planning, and implementing summer programs for children and youth in cooperation with the FCSS Child, Youth and Family Program Supervisor and Program Coordinator
- Support the Program Coordinator as needed with program registrations and keeping all registration lists up to date, ensuring that all parents and/or guardians fill out registration forms and waiver forms for the Summer Day Camp Program
- Assist with supervising program participants, promoting social and emotional well-being and fun
- Applying first aid to injured participants if required
- Responsible for documentation of all incidents and accidents on the provided forms and immediately inform the Camp Coordinator
- Ensure open communication with participants, parents, and staff. Must respond to parent and participant questions and concerns
- Advise the Camp Coordinator of any needs of the Summer Day Camp Program expenditures
- Assist in ensuring that all activities, or events, are scheduled and documented in a timely and organized manner
- Assist with proper set up and dismantle of daily activities at various locations
- Prepare and lead activities, games and crafts, in person or virtually
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, patient and have a love of children.
- Experience working with groups of children between 6-12 years
- Must be a minimum of 16 and maximum of 30 as per the Canada Summer Jobs Grant requirements
- Valid class 5 license with an acceptable driver's abstract
- Reliable vehicle to be used for work purposes
- Knowledge of local resources, agencies, and referral sources
- Knowledge of the stages of physical, social, emotional, and intellectual developmental needs of children
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Ability to plan and organize appropriate daily activities
- Ability to work independently and as part of the FCSS team.
- CPR/First Aid with AED (will provide training, if needed)
Successful candidates will be required to submit a Criminal Records Check and a Vulnerable Sector Check as a condition of their employment.
Additional Information
Term Length: This position works Monday to Friday for 35 hours per week from May 25 – August 21, 2026
Hours of Work:
Monday: 4 Hours
Tuesday to Thursday: 8am-5pm
Fridays: 4 Hours
Closing Date: This posting will close on February 20, 11.59 pm (MST)
Pay Rate: $25.53 to $30.03 per hour
