The Long Point Biosphere Region is Seeking Interpretive Guides for our Education and Outreach Programs Positions: Interpretive Guides Education and Outreach Programs
Organization: Long Point Biosphere Region
Location: Norfolk County, Ontario.
- Hours of Work: Casual
- Renumeration: $30 per hour plus travel
The Long Point Biosphere was designated in 1986 by Man and Biosphere program of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) due to its unique biodiversity, iconic landscapes, and conservation values. LPRA is one of only four biospheres in Ontario, 19 in Canada.
Interpretive Guides – Job Description Interpretive guides will deliver environmental education programs to adults, families, visitors and primary and secondary school students within the Long Point Biosphere Region (approximately the Norfolk County boundaries) including:
- Leading day and night interpretive hikes exploring local flora and fauna
- Delivering nature-based curricula (Lessons in a Backpack) to elementary and secondary school students including Backyard Feeder Watch, Host Gardens, and field trips to the Long Point Bird Observatory and other outdoor sites.
- Assisting LPBR road ecologists to deliver interpretive programming at the seasonal Long Point Eco-Adventures Turtle Hatchery
- Lead volunteers on ecological restoration efforts
- Participate in public educational and outreach activities and events
Qualifications
- University degree, college diploma or a combination of relevant experience in environmental studies and/or environmental education.
- Experience leading guided hikes and/or public presentations.
- Previous work experience in public outreach and environmental education.
- Strong knowledge of regional geography, flora and fauna.
- Be comfortable handling reptiles for educational purposes.
