Project Scheduling Manager (MS Project Professional Expert)

Project Scheduling Manager (MPP Expert) The successful candidate will have significant experience with integrated schedule planning in MS Project with clear ownership of complex, multi-workstream integrated schedules. They will be be responsible for building, maintaining, and governing the integrated project schedule in collaboration with workstream leads and stakeholders. The role requires a strong understanding of release-based delivery and deployment planning, as well as the ability to critically assess planning assumptions and proactively challenge risks impacting delivery feasibility. This contract would run from March to Dec 2026 and require a valid Reliability Government of Canada security clearance. ResponsibilitiesCandidates will need to demonstrate experience involving schedule logic governance, driving path, negative slack diagnostic, constraint management, baseline and re-baseline control and the ability to trace schedule impacts and model recovery options.Responsibilities will include:
- Develop and manage the integrated project schedule across multiple releases using MS Project Professional (MPP).
- Understand project scope with ability to link tasks and activities with appropriate dependencies (predecessors and successors).
- Identify, analyze, and monitor the critical path.
- Work closely with workstream owners to obtain status updates and validate progress against planned outcomes ensuring the schedule reflects accurate progress.
- Assess schedule risks, challenge inconsistencies, and escalate risks affecting delivery confidence.
- Identify scheduling delays and assess impact to critical path or timeline changes.
- Support project reporting and communicate schedule health clearly to stakeholders.
- Baseline and re-baseline the schedule as required, ensuring alignment with approved delivery strategy.
Qualifications
- Proven experience building and managing integrated schedules in MS Project Professional (MPP) for complex programs or multi-release initiatives.
- MS Project planning authority with previous experience driving predecessors, negative slack diagnostics, appropriate use of constraints, tracking slippage and structured schedule troubleshooting is required.
- Strong understanding of delivery lifecycles, release deployment planning, and dependency management to effectively manage the critical path.
- Ability to critically evaluate plans, question assumptions, and identify planning gaps to effectively lead the PMO Scheduling Management function.
- Experience working with cross-functional teams in large-scale delivery environments.
- Strong analytical mindset with the ability to translate strategy into executable timelines.
- Effective communication and stakeholder engagement skills, including leading project recovery conversations.
- Ability to provide recommendations and influence planning decisions.
- Experience using Azure DevOps (ADO) to analyze delivery progress and support integrated schedule management.
