Your Opportunity:
As the acute care Respiratory Therapist I at Alberta Children's Hospital, you will be challenged in your ability to balance varying patient acuity levels and priorities in the dynamic environments that Respiratory Therapy provides service to including PICU, NICU, Inpatient Units and the Emergency Department. The RRT I is a pivotal member of the health care team, and you will have the opportunity to utilize your excellent clinical, communication and teamwork skills to support optimal outcomes for your patient population. You will be expected to contribute to department and/or service area process improvement and maintain professional practice including, but not limited to, ongoing professional development, encouragement of a positive and supportive work environment, and demonstration of accountability. In addition, you will demonstrate proficiency in the following areas: Ability to be self-directed and exercise independent decision making and critical thinking skills. Ability to work under pressure, manage competing priorities, and effectively resolve conflict. Ability to interact collaboratively and positively with staff, students, Physicians, and the entire health care team to optimize the delivery of safe quality patient care. Ability to advocate effectively for patients and integrate patient and family centered care principles within own practice.
Description:
As a Respiratory Therapist I, you will assess patients (clients, resident), develop and implement respiratory therapy care plans and monitor their progress. You will be responsible for various diagnostic and therapeutic equipment and interventions. You will collaborate with various clinical teams and groups to enhance clinical outcomes. You will provide training and assist health care providers in the use and care of respiratory equipment as well as educate patients and their families regarding diseases, medications, equipment and treatments.

Required Qualifications:
Active or eligible registration with the College and Association of Respiratory Therapists of Alberta (CARTA).
Additional Required Qualifications:
Current BCLS-HCP Certification, including expiration date. Graduate of an accredited school of Respiratory Therapy Minimum 1-year independent clinical Respiratory Therapy experience within the last 3 years in an acute care hospital setting. Consideration may be given to recent graduates of a Respiratory Therapy program who have completed a final practicum in an acute care setting.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with pediatric populations in a professional or volunteer capacity. Formal preceptor training. Current PALS certification including expiration date. Current NRP certification including expiration date. Charge/Team Lead experience. Outreach/Rapid Response Team Experience. Pediatric and/or Neonatal Inter-facility transport training and experience.
