About the role

Your Opportunity:

This Registered Psych Nurse (Assertive Outreach Nurse) is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of client care within Area 7 Mental Health and Addictions. The incumbent performs a variety of nursing duties by administering safe and effective nursing care according to clinical policies and procedures and nursing care standards within Recovery Alberta. As a member of a multidisciplinary team, you will provide crisis intervention, assessment, diagnostic and treatment services (supportive therapy and life skills development) to adults with chronic and persistent psychiatric disorders. Your responsibilities will also include collaborative working relationships with and providing consultation to mental health therapists, addictions counsellors, community treatment order staffs, consumer support workers\mental health aides, community agencies, physicians and other health professionals in the continuum of mental health care. This Assertive Outreach Nurse will be working in a mental health environment and will practice within their full scope of practice as defined by the appropriate college and accepts responsibility for continuing competency through ongoing professional development, including participating in educational programs, research and continuous quality activities. This position has been identified and is anticipated to transition to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. Description:

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $39.58 /hour - $54.16/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program.

Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA).

Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0)

Preferred Qualifications:

Community and rural experience an asset. Experience in Addictions and Mental Health an asset. Knowledge of the DSM Categories, Mental Health Act and Assertive Outreach services an asset. Experience in conducting individual care plans and running groups an asset.
