JOB SUMMARY: The Labourer is responsible for safe and general maintenance and housekeeping of the dam and generation facilities, and all other odd jobs as required. The Labourer is also responsible to perform additional duties/responsibilities in order to maintain normal operations, as required. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES The essential responsibilities of the job include but are not necessarily restricted to the following: Maintain all inside and outside areas as required (e.g. cleaning, landscaping, snow removal, minor repairs, etc.) Run errands as required Assist contractors as required Perform routine safety inspections Assist with lock-outs as required Report all incidents and deficiencies to Management and call for assistance as required Ensure that all tools and materials used for duties are kept in proper and safe working order and are returned to their proper storage location after use Lubricate essential components of the equipment as needed Comply with all rules for personnel safety and work in a safe manner so as not to risk the safety of any person or to damage any piece of equipment Operate the hoists in a careful manner, as required, so their normal operation function is fully maintained, and immediately report any defects to the Operator which may impair the proper and safe operation of the hoists Respond to emergency situations and conditions Assist with the transportation of fuel and perform fuel checks Correct any minor defects that can be remedied using non-tradesman skills and the tools available, otherwise, refer all corrections to Management Maintain the working area in the offices, locker room, boiler room, electrical room, diesel room, etc. ensuring they are clean and tidy Paint building and equipment Change light bulbs Perform other handyman duties or all other related duties as required EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE High School diploma Technical school diploma, preferably in the electrical or mechanical fields considered an asset Relevant experience considered an asset Valid Ontario or Quebec driver’s license considered an asset Valid Fall Prevention certificate considered an asset Valid Lift Truck driver certificate considered an asset Valid First Aid/CPR certificate considered an asset ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS English is essential, both oral and written Bilingual (English and French) considered an asset The terms and conditions of employment for this position are governed by the collective agreement between Chaudière Services Inc. Limited and UNIFOR Local 73. Portage Power offers a Hybrid Work Model. Hybrid work is position specific, details of the hybrid model will be discussed with successful candidates. Location: Ottawa, ON The terms and conditions of employment for this position are governed by the collective agreement between Hydro Ottawa Limited and the applicable union.
