Department Information

The Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority (NTHSSA) offers challenging and exciting careers in health and social services delivery and administration in Canada’s North. Job Information

The Wellness and Recovery Worker plays a vital role in supporting individuals living with mental health and substance use challenges by providing supportive counselling and case management to ensure they receive the care and assistance they need. The position also contributes to community wellness through education and prevention initiatives, while facilitating referrals to other community programming. In addition, the role connects clients with both in-territory and out-of-territory addictions facilities, ensuring access to appropriate treatment and recovery resources tailored to their needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Knowledge of and ability to network resources within and outside the Health and Social Services Authority to ensure support for service users and their families.
  • Ability to perform health promotion activities in the area of addictions and its impact on physical, mental, spiritual and emotional health.
  • Facilitation skills for individual and group learning using a person- centered approach.
  • Ability to be self-directed, meet deadlines, prioritize workloads and manage several tasks.

Key Qualifications:

  • The knowledge, skills and abilities required for this position are typically attained by a Bachelors Degree in the Social Sciences related field combined with one (1) year of current experience in case management or counselling. Or
  • Diploma in Social Sciences with three (3) years of direct experience in case management or counselling.

Related education may include:

  • Addictions Counselling, Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, or Bachelor of Social Work
