Primary Purpose:

The Gordon Snelgrove Gallery Coordinator provides support to the area of Art and Art History within the School for the Arts to deliver curricular outcomes like the BFA honours and MFA Thesis Exhibitions, coordinate research activities within the gallery-as-laboratory for both undergraduate, graduate and community members, as well as recruitment activities. The GSG Coordinator plays a pivotal role in the facilitation of professionalization of our students and serves as conduit between the professional galleries and the student body. The GSG Coordinator provides support for the Art and Art History Visiting Speakers Committee, The FARLS lecture series, The Mina Forsyth Award, Ohpinamake applications, and the BFA Honours and MFA Thesis exhibitions, through advertisement and documentation.

Nature of Work:

Reporting to the Director, this position coordinates an annual public program of exhibitions and public events, related programming and communications. This work takes place in a collegial, team environment in a spirit of continuous improvement towards achieving the goals and measurable outcomes of UCAGAC’s Strategic Plan.

UCAGAC serves students, scholars, researchers, and the public on local, national, and international levels and has a national reputation for its innovative work in the field of contemporary art. The GSG Coordinator maintains schedules and communications including the ongoing coordination and development of website content.

The GSG Coordinator works very closely with the Director in their faculty position though intersects fully with the larger USAGAC team to both support and develop projects and maintain relevancy to our student body.

Accountabilities:

  • Develop the annual schedule for the GSG research lab in response to curricular and community needs, in consultation with the USAGAC Director
  • Facilitate communications with the various participants, whether students, faculty or community members
  • Maintain the website for the Gordon Snelgrove Gallery and provide updated collections information for the publicly facing database in response to the Mina Forsyth Awards
  • Assist the Director with Ohpinamake, Misanchuk, and Highschool recruitment events
  • Develop communication tools like e mailers, advertisements and print media when necessary
  • Coordinate the physical management of the space including annual cleaning and maintenance through Facilities and University protocols

Education:

Hold a BFA or BA in studio arts, art history, museum studies or other applicable discipline

Experience:

Evidence of commitment to the development of increasing access to our facilities and programs through barrier removal for equity-deserving groups whether intellectual, perceived or physical

Flexibility in hours and temperament as the role is responsive to developing and processual praxis

Skills:

Digital skills relevant to image handling, graphic and web design, database development
Excellent communication and time management skills
Experience with content development
Exhibition and art handling experience
Time based arts installation knowledge

Salary: The salary range, based on 1.0 FTE, is $53,091.00 - 82,954.00 per annum. The starting salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
