About the role

Possession of a valid 4th Class Power Engineer Certificate.

MUST be able to work a 3-week rotation (Day, Afternoon, Evening/Night… see below

for job description for details).

3 to 5 years hands on maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.

2-3 years’ experience working in aspects of Ammonia and Freon Refrigeration including Water Treatment, Valves, Switches, Pumps, Pneumatic controls, HVAC, Pressure Boilers, Electronic controls, Condensers, Compressors, Alarms, Cooling towers.

Experienced at carrying out repairs on process equipment, plumbing, electrical, refrigeration, motor controls, pump seals, and motor bearings.

Experienced at monitoring, maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing all HVAC

systems including calibrations and settings.

Knowledgeable and experienced of pneumatics, hydraulics & electronics.

Experienced at welding and fabricating (would be an asset).

Strong operating knowledge of various types of equipment such as Forklifts, Genies, Floor scrubbers, Skyjacks.

4th Class Power Engineer - Permanent, FT, Day, Afternoon, Evening/Night (rotate every 3-weeks)

 

Term:  Permanent, FT, Day, Afternoon, Evening/Night

Location:  Onsite

Reports to:  Maintenance Supervisor

Direct Reports:  0

 

Shift:  every 3-week rotation

  • 6am-2pm (Monday-Friday)
  • 2pm-10pm (Monday-Friday)
  • 10pm-6am (Monday-Friday)

 

Pay rate:  $37.22ph

*Evening Premium:  $0.75ph

*Overnight Premium:  $1.00ph

 

Overtime:  > 40 hours; > 8 hours per day.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the regular inspection, repair, replacement, installation, adjustment and maintenance of all refrigeration, heating and ventilating equipment for defects and improper operation and make necessary adjustments or repairs within the facility.
  • Carrying out repairs on process equipment, plumbing, electrical, refrigeration, motor controls, pump seals, and motor bearings.
  • Monitoring and maintaining low volume high pressure steam boilers and ammonia and Freon refrigeration systems.
  • Responsible for performing regular work orders and account for inventory on a CMMS system.
  • Monitor, maintain, troubleshoot and repair all HVAC systems including calibrations and settings.
  • Perform duties and responsibilities in a manner compliant to BRC standards.

Must understand and adhere to all plant Food/Health and Safety Policies and

GMP

  • Performs all tasks as per recommended job methods, procedures etc. as well as the preventive maintenance of plant production machines/equipment.
  • Oversees installation, operation, maintenance and repairs of machines and equipment are ensure that they function according to specifications.
  • Investigates equipment/machine failures and faulty operation and perform required repairs.
  • Use power and hand tools and equipment in an efficient manner and maintain them in a clean operating condition.
  • Carry out general repairs as required within and the exterior of the facility.
  • Carry out welding and fabricating assignments.
  • General upkeep and preventative maintenance of the equipment and facility in a 24/7 steam & refrigeration plant.
  • Performs and assists on other maintenance duties as required.

 

Required Knowledge, skills and abilities

 

  • Strong background in machine maintenance and repair.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude.
  • Excellent analytical and trouble shooting skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of pneumatics, hydraulics & electronics.
  • Operating knowledge of various types of equipment such as Forklifts, Genies, Floor scrubbers, Skyjacks.
  • Must be comfortable with heights and confined spaces.
  • Aware of workplace safety regulations.
  • Proven ability to be a strong team player as well as working with minimum supervision.
  • Applicant must be willing and able to work shift rotations (including days, afternoons, nights and weekends).
  • Available to work 10-12 hour shifts and overtime (if required)
  • Reliable transportation is required.

 

Qualification & Experiences

  • High school diploma (or equivalent) is required.
  • Possession of related valid 4th Class Power Engineer Certificate
  • 3 to 5 years hands on maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Previous work-related experience in the food industry would be considered an asset.
  • 2-3 years’ experience working in aspects of Ammonia and Freon Refrigeration including Water Treatment, Valves, Switches, Pumps, Pneumatic controls, HVAC, Pressure Boilers, Electronic controls, Condensers, Compressors, Alarms, Cooling towers.
