Job Description Job Duties
- Takes responsibility for the accurate completion of all customer transactions including visa, debit, etc.
- Contributes to meeting store sales budgets by maintaining customer service standards
- Implements store layout plans to attract customers including window displays and merchandise displays; ensures attractiveness of the store through “Tidy Maintenance”
- Replenishes inventory levels based on Supervisor’s directions
- Contributes to the control of inventory by retrieving, sorting, and pricing as per directions; protects the store from inventory shrinkage by close visual monitoring
- Contributes to the safety of staff and customers (e.g. snow removal, clear fire exits, no obstacles inside/outside store, cleans spillage and maintains store cleanliness)
- Performs other duties as assigned
Administrative Responsibilities
- Records incoming/outgoing donations in proper logs
Written and Verbal Communication
CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT
- Will primarily communicate with The Salvation Army’s Thrift Store customers
- Will communicate with the Salvation Army staff, volunteers and donors

- Reports directly to: Thrift Store Manager
- Direct reports for this position: N/A
Financial And Materials Management
- The incumbent is involved in minor financial matters regularly, or on a relief basis, or has responsibility for the wise use of his/her own resources
- He/She may be authorized to collect cash and other payment methods
Working Conditions
- A typical working environment is in the store
- The performance of the job requires continuously standing for long periods of time, frequent twisting, bending, crouching, reaching, reaching overhead, pushing and pulling, lifting, kneeling and entering data for transactions.
- The performance of the job requires visual monitoring and frequently working with numbers
- An incumbent will work under the following disagreeable conditions:
- Garbage o Washrooms
- Odours
- Truck Fumes
- Verbal abuse
- Dealing with angry people
- Work-related stress
- Work schedule may impact life (weekends)
- May have little to no travel requirements
- The incumbent works shifts (vary week to week)
- May be exposed to the risk of minor harm, injury or illness due to:
- Physical attacks by others
- Exposure to toxic chemicals
- Moving objects
- Risk of back injuries (throwing back out)
- Other potentially dangerous situations.
Education And Experience Qualifications
- The successful job applicant will have completed Public School Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements
- Up to three (3) months of prior related experience; including life skills.
Universal Precautions Skills And Capabilities
- Attention to detail, problem solving and analytical skills
- Attention to occasional computer work
- Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality with professional ethics and a balanced sense of fairness and flexibility.
- Ability and willingness to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check screening.

Compensation The target hiring range for this position is $19.39 to $19.77 with a maximum of $20.14.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
