Litigation Law Clerk for provincial government agency client, downtown Toronto.
Marberg Job Number: 2853 Job Type: Temporary. Initial Term: From August 10, 2026, to February 10, 2027, with possibility of additional extension or direct hire. Compensation: $37.36 per hour. Regular Work Hours: 7 hours per day, not including 1 hour unpaid lunch break, to be worked during regular business hours, Monday to Friday (35 work hours per week) Work Location: 100% onsite at client's downtown Toronto location, on PATH and near TTC station. Onsite Dress Code: Corporate according to Client business requirements.
Responsibilities Summary: Law Clerk to provide litigation and investigative support within a fast-paced, high-volume legal environment. Excellent opportunity for detail-oriented legal professional who thrives under deadlines and enjoys working on complex files from investigation through to hearings and appeals. Support legal counsel and investigators with complex investigations and litigation matters. Research, locate, review, and organize legal records, evidence, and case materials. Prepare summaries, indexes, briefs, affidavits, pleadings, correspondence, and court documents. Assist with the preparation and filing of motions, applications, production orders, warrants, and other legal documentation. Coordinate electronic disclosure, document management, and redaction of confidential information. Organize and maintain litigation files, exhibits, transcripts, and hearing materials. Attend hearings and proceedings to manage exhibits, maintain hearing databases, and support legal counsel. Liaise with witnesses, court officials, opposing counsel, and other stakeholders. Conduct legal and factual research to support ongoing investigations and litigation. Ensure accurate file management and compliance with legal procedures and deadlines. Provide guidance and task coordination to legal support staff as required. Additional law clerk responsibilities as required.
Qualifications: Education: Graduate of a recognized Law Clerk Diploma Program. Professional Designation: Membership in good standing with the Institute of Law Clerks of Ontario (ILCO) or eligibility for membership. Preferred Work Experience: At least 5 years of Law Clerk experience in a law firm, government agency, regulatory body, or similar legal environment. Preferred Sector Experience: Government Agency, Regulatory Body or Law Office.
Technical and Language Skills Requirements: Knowledge of eDiscovery platforms and electronic document management. Strong MSOffice proficiency (may be tested). Excellent legal drafting and proofreading skills, and demonstrated knowledge of legal terminology and procedure (may be tested). Expert level attention to detail (may be tested). Expert level English communication skills, including advanced level business writing skills, and excellent spelling, grammar, proofreading and syntax (may be tested). Professional telephone manners.
Task -Based Qualifications and Additional Attributes: Strong understanding of Ontario court procedures and legal documentation. Experience supporting litigation files from investigation through hearings, trials, and appeals. Demonstrated record of professional conduct and character. Responsible, reliable and works to deadlines. Focused and able to work effectively with minimal direction and supervision, to prioritize tasks effectively, and to manage volume targets and due dates. Pleasant and courteous. Demonstrated commitment to client service and professional representation of the organization. Proven ability to professionally handle confidential information and exercise good judgement in the interpretation and application of instructions and organization policy. Advanced organizational, coordinative and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively for self and others, meet tight deadlines and work well under pressure.
Additional Requirements: Must be available for virtual interview on July 22-24, 2026 Must be legally entitled to work in Canada, providing satisfactory documentation upon request. Ability to work 100% onsite, abiding by organization health and safety policies Ability to promptly provide minimum of 3 qualified employment references at point of client interview who are available to speak with either Marberg or Marberg's client. Ability to declare personal Non-Conflict of Interest in execution of assignment / position responsibilities. Ability to complete a satisfactory Provincial Government security check, including a Fingerprint Check, prior to assignment start. Please note that Marberg will reimburse for the cost of the security checks upon confirmation of assignment start and submission of approved expense receipts. Provision of certification of AODA and OHSA online training course completion prior to assignment start. Additional satisfactory Background Checks, Technical and Interpersonal Skills Evaluations, and Employment References as required.
